Hi Guy's,
My Dad has a 59 Carman Ghia just sitting in his workshop for the past 6 years, it's a lefty and he spraypainted the car, overhauled the engine and then just let it sit there, I'm thinking of buying it from him but I'm not too sure how available parts for these are. Would love to get her going and take her on the road but she needs a little attention now. Are cosmetic parts readily available or do I have to import. Are spareparts expensive on these car's?

Re: Question to Ghia owners
Most of the mechanicals are beetle mechanics. IE: motor. brakes definately, maybe gearbox, Mine does not look like a standard beetle box. Glass and rubber will have to be imported. Back seats are just cushions, front seats might be Type 3 seats????? they are not beetle seats.
The Ghia consists of 6 parts. Chassis. bonnet, boot, 2 doors.... and the rest.
The pans might be Type 3, also not sure.
As Im doing mine slowly and I need parts I will have to import. I doubt if you will find EVERYTHING needed for a full resto

Re: Question to Ghia owners
Seats are not Type 3 seats. However, repo Ghia pans are available on import, not exactly the same as a type 3 pan, but they can be adapted to fit a Type 3. Ron has them on his Ghia.

Re: Question to Ghia owners
If you get the Ghia and start with the rebuild, start asking for the parts you need (and advice!) There are parts floating around that people will let you have if you are serious. Go for it!

Re: Question to Ghia owners
I think the question you need to ask is how close you want to go back to stock.
Some of the cosmetic parts can be very rare and difficult to find locally - I had to import most of my stuff from the USA.
Like HR said, most of the mechanicals are Beetle stuff and you should be able to get her up and running quite easily and relatively cheaply and then take your time with the cosmetic parts.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

Steering wheel (2 year only item - 58-59)
Headlights (if you dont have those, a Mini headlight can work with some modification)
I imported a lot of stuff from karmannghia.com and house fo ghia.
The best is to compile a wishlist and post it in the wanted section.
