Re: The place to ask your "Stupid Questions" thread!!
Put the head flat on the floor.
Take a nut that just fits under the valve (between valve and floor) that you want to remove and wrap it up in a rage a few times.
Put nut under the valve you want to remove.
2 Persons:
You will need long nose pliers, a ring spanner that is bigger in diameter than the valve cotters, but smaller than the outside of the retainer and a big arsenal of 4 letter words.
Take the spanner, put it onto the retainer and with all your body weight, push down on the spring... the other person removes the cotters with the long nose pliers.
Yes, you hands will ache after a few.
It the retainer stays stuck on the cotters, take a socket, put it onto the retainer and give the socket a tap with a hammer to loosen the retainer off the cotters.
1 Person:
Take a socket that fits onto the retainer, while being much larger than the valve stem.
Hit socket pretty hard with a hammer
repeat
repeat...
What you are wanting here it that as you hit the retainer, the spring compresses and the cotters jump off.
I have seen this method done, but couldnt repeat it myself while feeling happy about doing it this way.

Howsit guys. I cant find my beetle manual, so here goes.. IS THERE A TRICK OR CERTAIN WAY TO SET THE WIPER ARMS? so that they clean the windows.. Im not sure if the motor is gone wonky, but after maybe 3good wipes the wipers go totally off course......

More than meets the eye!

I'm going to exercise some caution here and rather take it to someone and pay to do it the proper way. I'll try other tricks, but this one scares me.

I used the 2 person method a few times until I got the right tools. It hurts your hands a bit but it does work.

in all seriousness, how much does a beamish beach buggy kit cost?
and how much does it cost to have your wheel base shortened?

Re: The place to ask your "Stupid Questions" thread!!
It all depends what you have and what you want to do. I recall a Body alone going for R7500. Iwas quoted R1500 for a bonnet and R500 for a dashboard. Have a look at http://www.beachbuggy.co.za , they are beamish builders. You can work out from there what its gonna cost you.

Re: The place to ask your "Stupid Questions" thread!!
Hey guys!
My stupid question 1: What do I need to look for when buying a beetle?
Is there a certain link or post that I can go have a look?
What is the average price of a 1971-1976 Beetle?
The intention is to buy a beetle as a daily driver and with time mod it to my liking.
Thanks in advance for your patience and advice.

Re: The place to ask your "Stupid Questions" thread!!
hi all
this might be the perfect place for me to ask and get clarity
-ive been noticing that under the VIEW NEW POSTS, i receive very little post
-posts under ACTIVE POSTS have been deleted
-i also receive new posts a day or two later, like the post of TB6 dated on 3 dec 09
so,
Question 1) have there just been very little NEW POSTS from the members?
Question 2) was there a "clean up" of old posts due to the update
Question 3) is it the norm to get some posts a few days late
or im i just missing something, even tho im on everyday hoping not to miss anything under VIEW NEW POST

Re: The place to ask your "Stupid Questions" thread!!
My stupid question. How do you install the rings in the 3rd ring land? This is the seperate split 3 piece ring with the butted edges and the two outer thin rings... None of my manuals cover this in detail!
