Re: Pad Kos
It all depends where you are headed to when it comes to padkos.
A simple trip to White River or Durban would require some chips, sweets, plenty coke and some coffee for the early morning.
A more off the beaten track trip would require the same as above plus some fresh white rolls with cold meats and mayo, and finger foods for easy eating behind the wheel.
No matter where you travel stop at as many Wimpy's you can find.
Most importantly is to make sure you have some cold beers for the moment you stop for the day......

Re: Pad Kos
Maybe you need to relook "padkos" On our Namibian trips we prepare fish most of the time in folie,, about 2 hours before lunch time the fish (Sometimes stakes and wors as well) you put that on the exhaust manifold and start driving, After an hour you turn the fish,, careful the folie is very hot. Put a garlic roll with it and after another hour it is lunch time.
Will check if my father still have photograph of the fish grill he used on the exhaust manifold.
In the middle of the summer you can fry eggs on the bonnet after a lilbit of oil was applied.. (Only in Namibia though)
Those were the days, remembered the fish smell starting to get in the car after about half an hour in the run.
We always ate our food with milk as the gas coolies caused discomford on the long road
Need to move on my bus project,, feel a roadtrip need to be planned

Re: Pad Kos
My bus has got everything,a skottel (gas braai),regular portable braai (wood, charcole and fire lighters are always packed),2 cooler boxes, one for booze and the other is an electric job that can keep stuff frozen for 2 days,so my bus is a mobile camp site with braai facilities,....but a pie and coke for the road is usually the order of the day for the road,...and at least a box of smokes a day when im camping,I can go hungry or thirsty but cant go without a smoke!
Some prefered favorites for a longer road trip is sticky chicken wings and thighs, and saamies of some sort, usually ham cheese and mayo.

Re: Pad Kos
My favourite:
Coffe in a flask - white with sugar. After an hour of traveling the coffee has that creamy boiled milk taste - yummy
Whole wheat sarmies on shredded fresh lettuce in a Tupperware holder.
Small "frikadelle", hardboiled eggs
All the snacks travel in a soft Coleman bag with three ice packs
Thick sliced biltong and dried wors
2 liter bottle of frozen water - nice to drink as the ice melts

Re: Pad Kos
The question then is:
do I eat the seatcover and toss the food
or
do I eat the food and toss the seatcover
Not much traveling done either way

Re: Pad Kos
I am so looking forward to heartburn after finishing that.
I don't care if it's finger food or a muffin with a couple of shakes.
