need help on my project

Post by dablakmark8 »

1963-1967 beetle. ImageThe year is unclear and the vin:117 suggest 1967,but the original papers say 1961.So lets treat this bug as a 1967 which is still a winner in my eyes.
I need to drop the rear and front and still have a smooth ride.
Can i have advise on this please.
1:I would like to spray it matte black(flat black)is this expensive to do.
2:The whole car shakes at 55mph then subsided at about65mph..what is is?
3:I would really want to keep the beetle a rat(rusty and 40 years of mother nature but with dropped suspension and chrome wheels). How can i preserve that it stays rusted but not go any further.
4:How much does it cost to turbo charge a 1600twinport.All i need is just a little oomf..ps i am no speed freak just i love the dumpvalve :hangloose: sound and the shhhhh of a turbo.
5:I would like a sound system installed but i dont see how a 12" sub is gonna fit in the back, what suggestions is there.
6:How can a person lock the front boot when these cars never came with one.
7:Am i insane to ask these things

Also if there is anyone in SA that has a oval rusted rolling chassis i will give you a great offer for a 56.

1. dropped spindles
2. yes its xpensive. but fooking schweet. rather get a matt black vinyl wrap, after sorting out cancerous rust
3. Rust spreads in CT. 4. theres a lever in d glove box to lock the truck
5. turbo motors are kak expensive.
6. your suspension and tires need to be checked for the shaking.
7. a 12" will fit, spec box with the sub firing upwards.
8. my numbering doesnt correspond with yours.
9. a beetle isnt cheap. you own 1, coz you can afford to.

1. If it is going to be a Rat, ten just get BBQ paint.
2. Suspension bushings/balljoints sounds buggered.
3. Rust treatment products usualy turns the rust into a hard black/purple. But once rust sets in, you cant realy 'stop' it from spreading, specially when you try and 'lock' the rust in!
4. Just record a turbo and dump valve sounds and play it back on your loud ICE system!!!!
5. Dunno.
6. YOu cant.
7. Probably!

my car bounced at about 100km\h. I just changed the tyres(had to) and got them balanced. If your tyres are old...But still have thread that might be your problem.

O and the shhhhh turbo thing. get yourself a little doodat from autostyle. It fits onto your exhaust and can make any kar sound like a turbo car. They have a website and they deliver.
!!!!enough torque to tenderize an elephant!!!!

I agree, crazy and silly to buy a device that makes your car look like a beetle, next they will have a device to fit watercooled cars to make them sound aircooled...

not to worry,i got a application for the iphone/ipod touch called IBOOST will connect that up to the sound system and with the accelerometer being calibrated i will have my sound in the rear:D

Having learned alot since my previous 1960 beetle, you cant modernize a old car.The same goes with this car a 67 shell with a 72 1600 t/port motor.
