Help With Car
Guys, I have the original parts manual on my 1961 Beetle. It still has the tyre pressures in PSI. What are the tyre pressures in "Bar", on the standard wheels?
Also my car is listed as being registered on the 01 / 01 / 1961. Not very likely as people dont usually work on new years day. The chassis No. is 3486811 and the engine No. SFD009085. Ca anyone help with the exact date the car came off the production line? What about the engine? Is it 34HP 1200 or a 40HP 1200. Thanks in advance.

It depends on the ride you want, really.
I know my Mother's bug runs at around 1.2/1.3 in front, and 1.6 at the back, but that's a tame car.
I run 1.6 up front, and 1.9 at the back, but I do wind my car, and it's far from stock.
That 01/01/1961 is the first year of licensing, essentially.
It's the first year that a license was applicable to your car, ie: you could buy that car new in '61, simply put.
I can't help with the engine type, but I would hazard a guess that it was the 34Hp.

D engines are normally 1200
mains and cam (if it has cam bearings) are the same as 1600 big ends and cylinders are a different kettle of fish post a picture of the intake manifold where it joins the head and I may be able to help further. 1200 engines are considered obselete

1200 Engine
The engine is currently stripped and crated along with another 1200 engine. The car is currently a 1600 twin port. I want to go back to the 1200 engine but need a crankshaft and conrods.

1200 is sweet.
Classic all the way.
Kudos to anyone who rolls a 6v 1200 (any model).
I ran it with the '62, and will roll any VW with that setup that should have that setup.

do you have a picture hosting account somewhere?
like imageshack or photobucket.
I use photobucket.com
if you are using a pic from the net already, copy the images address (right click it or say open image in new window, then copy the address)
then, click on the spanner and screwdriver icon above on this forum, then scroll to the bottom where it says "avatar control panel" then paste the address in the block given then click submit
