Hi sp1600uk,

'sfunny ive not let anyone see the car for nearly 10 years and have been slagged off on the SA sites despite posting pics of the car but the moment i let someone independent see the car the doubt stops pmsl'
Where did you post the pic's as you mentioned in your volkzone post? Would love to see them -sorry to be a nuisance but this has become a most interesting thread indeed :D

Thanks for the reply sp1600uk - well the lack of one actually.....
I for one have read your posts and given you the benefit and then you come with all your :bn: and slate ALL South Africans!! I never slated you.
It would seem that you have some personal grudge against South Africans? We are pretty proud of what and where we have come from and sure have problems but then so does the rest of the world and well then so be it and please do have some more of our red wine.
Oh and would you like some cheese with that wine I mean WHINE? :hangloose:

1600sp, it seems like you are some kind of masochist for coming back time and again to this Forum with your senseless comments. As was said earlier - you have an open invitation to proof us wrong, but to date you weren't able to provide substantial proof of the existence of your 'special' SP Beetle. Your status of pebble in the shoe, which was upgraded to thorn in the side a long time ago has now officially matured to PAIN IN THE ARSE

SP1600UK

As far as I know and my father had a yellow 1600SP, one of the first five in South Africa the SP only had a different exhaust and two carbs as far as engine mods went. He added 1.4:1 ratio rockers and an EMPI exhaust to his car which made it very quick but he could only manage 6000RPM maximum. Apart from this these mods coupled to the oil technology back then meant after a hard run the oil pressure would fall to practically zero at idle which meant the engine didn't last very long.

I have just completed a build on a highly tuned 2276cc engine with a counterbalanced crank, wild cam, two 44mm carbs, 1.25:1 ratio rockers and CB wedgeport heads. Care to guess how much it revs to still making power? Only 7 000RPM. There is NO way your "original" engine would do 7 500RPM simply because neither the stock heads nor the stock camshaft or the single choke carbs for that matter would support a 7 500RPM effort, 7 500RPM on a stock non-counterbalanced crank would also result in rapid case wear.

As for slating South Africans as arrogant. You have quite a cheek seeing as we are only after the facts which you seem loath to provide. The problem is you are talking to people who know SP beetles well seeing as they were made for our market. Go and talk nonsense on the European forums, chances are they will take your word about a car that was never offered to them in the first place.

im not going in to a lesson on engine building , no doubt yours runs well .ive built a number of engines over the years counterweighted balanced and blueprinted ,each piston weight and rod matched flywheel lightend and balanced even the alternator pulley ballenced , carbs flow tested and matched , heads with titanium valves and flow tested each cylinder matched ,on a 1783 (measured cc ) engine ran to 9800 rpm with no trouble

hahahaha 9800 rpm on a 2 valve head hahahaha either you a stand up comedian or you missed your calling at NASA. On second, no make that first thought, you must really beleive yourself and are in reality a good example of the intelligence of your countryman or you take us for a bunch of idiots.

I am doubting the fact if you even have a beetle, let alone an SP version let alone ever worked on an engine, come to think of it, it surely looks like you are a real bullshitt3r....

Now look what you have started.
Didn’t they tell you where the fuse of the time bomb is.
Any way Im amazed how much knowledge and information is available on this site.
I know nothing about the subject other than that I would love to have a SP or McPherson suspension on.
Here is one from CITP –like the way the wheels sit in fenders.

PS. Please pass if this is not a SP as I not and a expert.

The above beetle is not an SP but rather the South African S with the round front windscreen and big dashboard but still uses normal SA beetle suspension
