Haven't had a chance yet unfortunately.

Like you, I'm keeping mine.

I need a wire replaced inside...insulation wore away, so I won't be able to comment on a full recon.

Brian Doyle & Sons in Blairgowrie. They're in the phone book.

Thanks volks...
Fig, after trying to remove my alternator last night (I got to the fan part and then thought better of it, realising the carb linkage and ignition must also come off) I decided that I will get the pros to do it and have some other work done same time...
The fuel tank solenoid is a great idea and had it on the previous bus.
I want to connect a tacho and need to run a cable to the front... I will just get them to fit it..
Power for some sound (at some stage)
Check all lights are working (have suspected brake lights may not be 100%)
Bulbs in speedo not lighting.
Fuel gauge not working.... as ever.

Any other useful mods to consider?

I'd recommend BD&S for all electrical work.

BTW, it's not difficult to remove the alt without removing the fan housing. You just have to get your arm round in front of the fan housing to loosen the 36mm nut holding the fan on.

Did this at the roadside once when my gen unravelled itself near Grabouw.

So I took it in and its the regulator, not the alternator... Relieved, but I did measure voltage across the alt (ac & dc - to be sure) and got nothing... strange.
anyway, where can I get the solenoid valve? the guy they use wants R795 for the job which seems steep.

Fig, I did consider the bolt at the back, as I could reach it, but a.) I dont have a 36 socket yet and b.) the idiot book said there were shims, which i didnt want falling all over the show....
But thanks folks, getting it back today.

I sure as hell hope I don't get charged anywhere near that to replace the wire on mine...
