As far as I know, the lights sit 90deg on a bus in relation to how they sit on a bug or golf.
These lights are focused, so in a golf they shine low and wide, keeping the beam out of other cars mirrors (well, thats what mine does anyway).
Turn it 90deg and you have an up and down beam that will blind traffic all night long.

Re: Pappa se pompwagen
Point taken, but I don't think I will have to go to such extend because the WBX with the side mounted rad set-up never had overheating issues. OK the spare wheel well was removed at the time and drove with all windows open, thus plenty of airflow on the radiator.Tony Z wrote:Good in theory, but in practice I am not sure.RICKY-R69 wrote: If I still don't have enough airflow to the radiator I will add a jetta 3 aircon pump and incorporating it with a booster fan blowing cold air on the radiator. What do you guys think? Will this work?
Think of how the aircon works.
You take engine power to turn a compressor. This makes the gas hot and adds load to your engine, making it hotter.
Then the gas gets pumped into a condenser where it gives off heat (energy - supplied by your engine).
Then it expands and cools.
which then goes to an evaporator and cools the air which is going to be blown onto you radiator (by a fan I suppose, energy for which is supplied by your engine).
Plus there are pumping losses.
I might work, but I doubt it.
think of how long it takes the aircon to cool the inside of your car on a hot day. And how much power your car looses when you turn the aircon on... Cooling an engine -- not so sure.

Hi all,
As long as you keep the "TOP" of the bulb, lamp, to the top it will work as it does in other cars, the internal deflectors will control the light. If using a sealed beam, place "top" to the top and it will work.
With the radiator, I would make sure that I could scoop air from under the van into the radiator, and then have a exit scoop, in line with the 1st scoop, which will release air back into the vacuum that the 1st scoop has made.
This will suck the hot air out, giving good cooling.
Just remember to seal this air channel well as it will take up a lot of water in wet days. Also place grid protection for stones.
My 1/2 cant worth....

I want to put the radiator inside the engine bay on the left hand side. Golf 1 radiator fits nice there.

Have seen two local Buses done like this, both run Golf engines and they work brilliantly with no overheating etc etc
Better than hacking up the front of the Bus with a radiator and Mercedes grille

I searched this topic thoroughly on the net. Plenty ideas on http://www.vwkd.com . But I like the idea of putting the radiator in the engine bay as I am planning on camping next to dams and travel a lot of gravel roads.

I agree, the radiator must be in the engine bay, so that you can get the hight right.RICKY-R69 wrote:I searched this topic thoroughly on the net. Plenty ideas on http://www.vwkd.com . This is important to prevent trouble with air locks. Fit a Pressure/filler tank at the highest point, and fit slim air ducts from under the van, through the radiator, down to bottom, of van , and out the back.
If the intake is exactly the same size as the intake, the vacuum formed will help suck out hot air.
The bends will also help to protect the radiator.
And it will look neat, even from the bottom.

Re: Pappa se pompwagen
Did some spares shopping today.Got a set of taillight lenses for R105 each.think that is quite a reasonable price? Rear wheel cylinders at R106 each, and two sets of rear wheel bearings for R320. Will be cleaning everything tomorrow and get ready for assembly next week. Still waitlng for my rear linings to be bonded. So lots of work waiting for me.

Re: Pappa se pompwagen
No it is a picture I got from another forum. Golf radiator fits perfectly into that space. By re-routing the airflow from the R/H air intake over the tank, i am hoping to create enough airflow through the radiator. This will be achieved by using a bigger radiator fan.I think my problem will not be getting enough aitflow through the radiator, but getting rid of the hot air in the engine bay. What do you guys think?beetlefanatic wrote:Is that a golf radiator?

Re: Pappa se pompwagen
Do not mix the radiator air with the engine compartment air, then both will not work.
Keep the air through the radiator completely ducted so that what comes in must go out. Then create vacuum at exit point, to help fan remove air.
The other side you scoop the same way, and use it to cool engine bay. Also air in and air out.
Water cooled is not the same as aircooled in so far that the fan must have air flow assistance, such as grill, air scoops, negative air pressure, ie vacuum to draw air through system, and then the fan assists during hi peaks.
Also push fans are better then pull fans.(got myne from silverton radiators, very helpful)
Have used this system for the trike, and it works well.

Re: Pappa se pompwagen
Did the rear wheel bearings today. For better cleaning purposes, I removed the bearing carriers completely. Cleaned out everything( messy job with all the grease that is 30 something years old). Removed the old bearings by tapping it out with a drift. Easy enough. When re-assembling I ran into a problem. The front roller bearing would not fit. RTFM. The bearing must be pressed in. So " 'n boer maak 'n plan". Pop the bearings in the freezer and the hubs into the oven and voila, fits like a hand in a glove. The seatcover wasn't impressed at all, but WTF, man's got to do what a man's got to do. Fitted new wheel cylinders and got adjusters workng again( think it was seized up for the past twenty years). Just waiting for the shoes to be bonded with oversize linings( short term solution while searching for better drums).
