Aircooled forklift

Post by jolas »

This forklift belongs to Andre van Wyk at Andreno engine rebuilders in Villiersdorp.

It was constructed by Hans Still AG of Hamburg in 1957. It spent it's working life in the fruit packing sheds of Grabouw or Elgin. It had recently been hauled out of a dusty corner of Andre's workshop where it had been languishing for a few years. The engine had been rebuilt and was just installed, and I was lucky to be there to watch them start it up. It has a 1100 cc motor. It was supplied by a Johannesburg based engineering company, "Koppel" in the late '50s.
I am trying to find out more about the history of this machine but my searches on Google have been unsuccessful thus far. I would love to find some photos of a similar unit in operation, workshop manuals, production history and so on ..........

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Hey Paul, I think you should put this together as a letter to Volksworld. I'm sure they would be interested.

HI Rainer, I have replied to your email, but does your forklift look exactly like this (body-wise) one - keeping in mind that yours is a '62 and this one a '57 - cheers !

Paul. Great piece of history, thanks for sharing. It would be great to have it on my registry.
