Split bus. Could have been a fleetline

Post by MINCE »

Couldn't take a picture as I was driving and it was dark. Was passing Stones in Durbanville and was behind a two toned split which looked in awesome condition (light blue bus with top half in White by the looks of things. It was night time).
Was also for sale! Couldn't get the number as he pulled away from me. Looked and sounded like it ran beautifully. And quickly! :D

Any body familiar with what I described?

Yes, I think he wants R85k for it - if it is the same one I am thinking of then it is a German bus ('64 - '67)

looks like it, except that is a fleetline (judging by the badge and large rear window) so it can't be a German

The pictured bus is a German 64-67. Fleetline Kombis all have corner windows, so no 11-window Fleetlines. In 64 German buses gained a full width rear hatch and window; Fleetlines still have the narrow hatch, but with the wider window as fitted to all German corner window buses.

It's probably just painted the same colour as the front panel. Also, it's quite possible the bus has had a nose replacement and the only thing available was a Brazilian nose.

Read my article in the History forum about Fleetlines, which details all the things that identify a bus as a Fleetline. To be sure, you'd need to check two or three things, because Fleetline parts have found their way onto all buses.

Yep, guy stays in Durbanville, Aurora. I followed him home the first time I saw him. The nose is def Brazilian, had a closer look (after he went into his house when I followed), so probably added later as per Fig. I thought it was R75k? Must be the memory...

And for what it's worth, I don't normally stalk people, only if it's a split you could expect me to tail you like an undercover agent!
