Its a special process to treat bare metal parts for rust protection, the same as done by the motor manufacturers.

Would you get the same protection from powder coating. I wanted to do the fenders and lids sand blasted then powder-coated. Your ideas

Do Not Powder coat.......

The right way would be to VERY Carefully, sand blast the parts inside and out.
This must be done by someone that has done body parts before, as if they use to high a pressure, they will warp the panels, and destroy the project.....
ALSO do not use PAINT REMOVER as it will stay dormant on the panels, and attach the new paint every time there is moisture in the air... Car with bubbles, that is Paint Remover...

Then you send them to a OEM car parts manufacturer in your area, that does E - COAT,

Then you do the body work and spray painting.

If you not going to use body filler, and use lead, then you can do that before E-COAT

Do not powder coat, as this will not give you full protection against rust, and will develop problems later for tough ups.

Thanks for that I will check out the thread. Any idea what 4 fenders & both lids will cost. I wouldn't attempt the blasting on the rest of the body because of warpage unless I come across someone who has done it with a good blaster. What do they use overseas when you watch shows on TV they send it in for blasting on american cars which have large pannels etc.

The big guys in USA use soda blasting, as well as chemical dip bath systems, as well as low pressure blasting.
But you need to cover the clean surface within minutes, else it gets covered in rust.

Soda blasting is becoming more popular here, but expensive due to dust, and single use of media.
Sand is illegal due to silicoses.
They namely use Platinum Slag, in different sizes.
