Post by herbie123 »

Hi Pretoria Aircooled guys n gals

I might have the description slightly wrong of this club , never the less

Does anyone of you have any contact with this club and does anyone have an idea if this club still exists

Is there a plan for 2012 , I cant get hold of Kobus since august , is he still "Chairman" of this club ?

Hi Andreas

Yes, Pretoria Sport VW Club is still around, and still led by Kobus.

According to my records his mobile number is: 0722898373 and his email address is:

He was involved in organising the recent Air-cooled Heritage day (you were there), as well as the Jan Smuts House run. I received comms from Kobus and Pta Sport VW for both those events.

Clubs, you want to know what is the problem with clubs? Ya looking at it! ACVWSA get together's much better, no constitution, no person making silly rules, no loss of interest or being to busy at work.

You want a meeting, arrange one, nobody pitching, then it was not needed or nobody thought it worth wile attending.

After all here we are a loose affiliation of fans(no pun intended) and it has a life of its own!

Its mot meant to be a dig at clubs, some work, most don't. Look at how popular our meets are, Jhb one and the Snor City one a few weeks ago. We agreed that every 2 months there b one in Jhb and 2 later one in Pta.

I agree with Sarel, Acvw is like the new club with branches all over and everyone is welcome, I think it's doing wonders for the scene, especially on a social level!

Well said.... look at the Cape Town Volksie Club for example. I was a founding member. Anyway, it no longer exists....
This happens to many many clubs, not just car clubs. My GF is in a dog sledding club. Her club got together 3 years ago and formed a national organisation and got it registered nationally. Got 13 other clubs involved. Then the national bickering started to such an extent that most of the clubs have now pulled out, including the founder club and this founder club now has so much bickering in it that they are considering closing their doors.
So many people want to reap the rewards of having a club, but so few are prepared to put in the effort to run the club.

The only way a club works is if it is kept social. You want an event, well organise it then. Not all events need to be logo days. A simple bring and braai or meet for drinks is often enough to get people out.

Well said.

Anybody got a workshop or warehouse where we can organize a meet to cook some meat for the next get together
