Do you remember the Mobil 'Cars of the World' books?

Post by Pine »

Page 74 & 75 of 'Cars of the World', a 4-part car mini-encyclopedia distributed by Mobil gas stations in South Africa, mid-60's. They actually pop up quite often at swop meets, and is an interesting resource of cars al over the world at the time

PINE!!!

I've scanned the very same pages and was going to post them here!!!

Anyway, I got a complete set in the original box in excellent condition...

my grandfather had the 4 books in a very tatty state and when they moved house, they got lost..I was sad because since I was a kid, I used to look at the Vw pages..Beginning of the year I found a mint box set and purchased it..was very happy again

I have a set from when I was a kid, although the box got trashed along the way. It was my first motoring reference book! I think I got it when I was 5 years old.

They are quite easy to find in used book shops, priced between R40 and R200.

I also have very fond memories of that set. Actually damaging my Dad's set when I was still small - young motorhead fingers aren't too kind to books  - but I got him a mint and boxed set for his birthday a few years ago to 'make up'. He was speechless...

Did those books have white covers? If so I must have a set lying at my dads place somewhere.

The 4 books were all identical, with pictures of different types of cars on the back and front cover. The little holder for them looked the same as the books far as I can remember?

Try Henry at (011) 872 0773, he is always at Cars in the Park with old automotive books, and I am pretty sure I've seen some loose ones at his stall before!
