Oval Beetle en Split Kombi jaarmodelle.

Ek is nuut op die forum en aangenaam verras met die gesprekke wat gevoer word.
Ek het 'n Oval Beetle en begin eersdaags om dit op te bou. Ongelukkig geen reg papiere of ID plaatjie voor in die bonnet nie. Ek het wel 'n Enjin Nr. nl: 2273209, en sal graag wil weet watter jaarmodel dit is, asook of dit 'n 1100 of 1200cc enjin is.
Dan is ek ook besig met 'n split Kombi paneelwa, en sy Serial Nr/ Vin Nr is 1182389. Hy het sedert 1976 onder 'n boom gestaan en het nie 'n enjin nie. Jaarmodel asb?
Ek het reeds 'n 1958 Beetle, 'n 1978 Beetle, 'n 1976 Brasiliaanse (Fleetline?) Baywindow Kombi (met hoek vensterjies agter), asook 'n 1967 Karmann Ghia. Sal vorentoe foto's plaas.

Hansman , gaan stel jouself eerste voor in die "Introduce yourself thread ". Die mense op die forum hou nie daarvan as mense nie hulle self eers voorstel voor hulle vrae vra nie !

What is the chassis number of the Oval?
The engine number from your oval says it is from 1960. As far as I know, it is a 1200 motor.

CORRECTION:: Engine is from March of 1958
Is the generator pedistal part of the engine block? If it is then it is an 1100 AFAIK

Dankie vir die verwelkoming Jolas. Ek is ongelukkig "computer e-litarite", en my dogter sal moet help met die fotos.
Mince, thank you for your reply. I unfortunately have no chassis number, as the body was stripped of everything, including the ID plate. And yes, the pedistal is part of the engine. Any ideas on the year model of the split window bus?

Your split bus is a 1963 or maybe a 1964; I don't have my lists with me.

The stock engine in an oval is a 36hp 1200 (1192cc). Locally many people incorrectly refer to this engine as an 1100. The true 1100 engine (25hp 1131cc) was used up to 1953.

You can get the chassis number on the chassis itself. Look under the rear seat, just in front of the access plate. The chassis number is stamped on there.

Fig, please check my engine number? I must have gotten that wrong too - 3273967. The pedestal on mine is also part of the engine block. I am sure mine is from 59.

VIN 1182389 was built in October 1963 for the 1964 model year. The bus would have been assembled in SA 6-8 weeks later, so about December 63. The bus should have the wide rear hatch and rear window that were introduced in 8/63 for the 64 model year.

Eng# 2273209 dates from February 1958, therefore 36hp 1200.

Eng# 3273967 dates from October 1959, which I believe makes it a very late 36hp 1200.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I had a look on the tunnel just in front of the access plate, but nothing. Both my other beetles are stamped there, but this one only has a smooth rectangular part without any digits. Thanks for the information regarding the bus as well. I appreciate.

Sometimes the paint flows into the crevices of the number. Try sanding it down slightly and see if there is something under the paint.
