Possible 3rd location of beetle chassis number

Post by buggyfan »

So we all know the chassis nr of a beetle is either on the pan or on the plate in the sparewheel well,
On the pan i got from Sthang there is no number stamped on the pan in the usual spot but i did find a chassis nr stamped on the inside of both rear shock towers .
has anybody else ever seen this??

I've seen that before - are you sure it is not the part no of the shock towers? What is the number stamped there?

was thinking the same thing but if it was the part nr it would have been raised instead of punched.

I think it is a part number, same as Pine.

Why don't you go to this site.. http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_parts_Beet ... try_GB.htm

and type in that number, and see if the parts that its on matches to your placement...
