Early bay window bus, Rawsonville

Post by jolas »

Image

So there I was, slaving away on a glorius Saturday morning last weekend, in the Rawsonville winelands, transporting 13 female passengers ( 8) ), (in my very faithful water-cooled Japanese bus ) from wine farm to wine farm. I came across this beauty at one of the farms.

We continued to "bump" into one another at different farms, no joy at finding the owner

Finally, towards the end of the day, I discovered it was a fellow ACVWSA forum member, Peecee :hangloose:

Stunning bus dude - well done - and nice to meet you and your crew :hangloose:

Hey!!!!! That bus was restored by "Grand Slam Aircooled Services".... go figure that you would not recognise it Jolas, it was in the shop for a Looooong time :D

Next time you meet up with Paul, the owner, ask him if he has bought a brewery yet
If it's NOT air cooled... it's NOT cool!

Thanks for sharing. I really like EBs a lot. Now my question.

Are those wheels (steelies with big domes) correct?

I like the way they look compared to the flat coverson my bus. Is there any reason why it would be unwise to fit what look like beetle wheels to a bus? I am guessing the steelies might have some kind of weight rating although that seems unlikely.

I think both the grumpy owner of Grandslam Auto and the cool bus are both strong candidates for brewery ownership

(why do i get the feeling I know you Sunshinevw or "Izzy" ? - welcome to the forum anyway  )

@ Drusky, those hubcaps are correct for the early bays - I think the change-over was when disc brakes were introduced ?

Yes, those 14in wide five wheels with Beetle hubcaps are stock on 68-70 earlybays. They are not Beetle rims, but there's be nothing stopping you from fitting Beetle rims if you wanted 15in wheels, but Beetle rims are narrower than 14in earlybay rims.

The owner will have to wait a long time to buy a brewery, since the grumpy guy cleaned out his wallet! !!
Jolas, great pic's man, would love copies for the album.
