Drive-by spotting
Saw this old, dilapidated bug while driving in Pemba, Mozambique. Only had time to grab this quick shot.
I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

I worked in Pemba for 1 month... lived at the hotel accom and used to frequent a nearby hostel / bush pub on the other side of town

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

When was that, Tony? The two places that I've been to is Pemba Bush and Dive Camp and Russel's. Don't spend too much time in Pemba - usually just the stopover on the way further north.

Re: Drive-by spotting
that was in Sept 2004. I cant remember the name of the place.
From the hotel on the tar road, then left to follow the coastal sand road then right after about 2km (if I remember correctly).
The gents "toilet" was just an open piece of sand fenced in by Tarp that you pee on. Stank to high heaven and back again.

Ah.... Russels. Received a proper fleecing from a "taxi driver" last time I was there.
Toilets have improved a bit since your time, though.

Re: Drive-by spotting
You're right with that.. It's not a 1303, it could most likely have disk brakes in the front looking at the 4x130 wheels, probably a 1975 or so judging by the front bumper..dixtoy wrote:Don't think its a 1303 they have curved wind screens and a different front lidjolas wrote:is that a 1303 (excuse my lack of Beetle related "knowledge) ?

Re: Drive-by spotting
That looks like a 1302, same floor and suspension as the 1303 but with a flat windscreen and long hood.

Not the best examples but you can see the difference.
Early Super Beetle, 1302 Flat windshield
Later Super Beetle, 1303, Curved windshield
