Are you asking how to describe a car on an application for registration?

I think Volkswagen Beetle or almost any of the others listed will do. I don't think the authorities really know or care.

I have a double cab described on the papers as a VW Golf pick-up.
I have a Fleetline Kombi described as a Volksiebus.
I have a Mercedes Gelandewagen described as a station wagon.

What is the South African name for a VW Beetle:
