OWN ONE OF THE FASTEST VW ENGINES IN SOUTH AFRICA
This is most probably the fastest VW engine in South Africa. This engine can do the following:
• Stationary - 60 feet in 2.8 seconds
• 0 - 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds
• ¼ mile in 13.2 seconds
• Top speed of 178 km/h
These are actual times officially recorded and can be verified.
The base engine is a VW 1600 twin-port. The original pistons in a 1600 are 86mm; these have been bored out to 94mm, making it a 2280cc engine. It has an Oetinger Crank. Eliminator Heads. Button Clutch. Electronic Egnition ( no points & condensors ). Oil filter & extended sump. Imported EMPI carburetor intakes with two 44 downdrafts with Weber 44 Carbs. Imported K&N air filters / air cleaners. Maling Oil Pump. And External oil cooler. Total cost of all the parts imported for the re-build ( mainly from USA ) was R60 000,00. That’s excluding import duties, workmanship and obviously the cost of the original engine. Only about 2000 km’s done since the re-build.
I also have the 1500 Beetle gearbox to go with the motor, as opposed to the 1600 gearbox that usually comes with the 1600 twin-port motor. VW experts will explain that the 1500 gearbox is a much stronger box which they use for racing to be able to cope with the much more powerful motor. It has a much better gear ratio with a longer 1st gear which is obviously better for the power underfoot. I not only have the 1500 box, but also a hydraulic clutch with a short ratio kit installed for faster gear shifts...!
Transform your buggy, beetle, kombi, hot-rod, or any other kit-car that is built on a VW chassis into a very fast, very powerful vehicle.
R 50 000,00 for the motor and gearbox
R 40 000,00 for the motor and box ( if you give me your existing reconditioned 1600 twin-port and box )
R 45 000,00 for the motor and box ( if you give me your existing non-reconditioned 1600 twin-port and box )
Would also consider swapping for a car or cruising motorcycle of same value…

Re: OWN ONE OF THE FASTEST VW ENGINES IN SOUTH AFRICA
Sounds like an awesome engine but not to burst your bubble but whoever informed u about the capability and spec of the 1500 tranny have their info very wrong. A late 1600 tranny is a better option. For you to have a longer first gear you would need a aftermarket main shaft ATM one would set you back R13K to R15K. More defined spec on the motor will help.
For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

As a 1st post, no one will take you serious, You have not even introduced your self or your interest as requested in you acceptance mail.
Please Go to the New Members introduction thread and lets have more info on you and what you do.
Photos of your ride and of this engine and gearbox would also help.
Then lets hear who done the mods on your engine and gearbox, and what exactly was done to them.
We keen readers you know..............

Re: OWN ONE OF THE FASTEST VW ENGINES IN SOUTH AFRICA
You mention that it has done 2000 kilos. Minus it's fan-housing. Only cooled by 2 hoses fed from a single T-junction. Possibly fed by electric fan not shown. Assume that was 2000 kilos of drag-racing, and quickly switched off after the quarter mile, otherwise it would have overheated badly?
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Re: OWN ONE OF THE FASTEST VW ENGINES IN SOUTH AFRICA
Does not look like a very neat motor... probably built for a beach buggy for the occasional drag race meet. So I assume this motor has no real road reliability?
Dave Rowley from FFR would have built you a nicer neater looking motor for that money...
Having said that. .. Daves buggy does 0 to 100 km in about 3.8 sec and the quarter mile in the low 10 sec

Re: OWN ONE OF THE FASTEST VW ENGINES IN SOUTH AFRICA
I like the end of the accelerator cable. Neat!
It looks like the intake ports are bigger than the cooling air ducts ...
And what's with the "window" cut in the cooling tin over No4 head? Can you give us more detail on the cooling system? What kind of pump? How much air flows through those ducts? etc.
I think Dawie may be correct on the type of use this engine has had; I doubt it clocked its 2,000km on a drive from Cape Town to Joburg. I would suspect that after 2,000km that engine has reached the end of its life ...
With such a highly customised engine we need a LOT more info and pics about its spec, what parts went into it, who built it, etc.

This buggy was sold less than a month ago! Probably for far less than what this guy wants for the motor.

Re: OWN ONE OF THE FASTEST VW ENGINES IN SOUTH AFRICA
Got a strong feeling the engine is from the Black 2ltr Buggy being sold sometime back.

If this is the case, the engine sole purpose was for drag racing, those eliminator heads are not meant for street use and will proberbly overheat.

Re: OWN ONE OF THE FASTEST VW ENGINES IN SOUTH AFRICA
thats all wonderful and all, but those are not eliminator heads.
You can see by the fins around the mounting bolts that they are stock style heads, not eliminators.
Other than that, I dont want to share my thoughts on buying this engine

Who hooks up the accel. cable the way this one has been done? LOL. I guess detail on this build is not one of the strong points.
