no spark of coil
Hi gents,
I made a big mistake this afternoon, I accidentlly connected the positive black to the negative of the coil. Could I have damaged the coill and the module in the distibutor or just the coil as I do not have spark .

Re: no spark of coil
Your coil is normally made of sterner stuff, and polarity will not effect it.
BUT you may have blown your new electronic unit.
These are very sensitive and must have a good grounding (EARTH or Neg)
Also loose wires will effect your unit as it works with very low current and voltage.

Re: no spark of coil
I agree with Herman
you can actually wire a coil backwards and it will work. Not as well but it will work
Your fancy new module is probably toast as these cant handle much load and if the ignition is left on without the engine running, then they burn out pretty rapidly.

Re: no spark of coil
O yea, with the ignition modules, when you get it running, make sure you ALWAYS carry a spare set of points and condenser with your for when the module does fail.
That said, it appears the quality of points and condensers is on the decline, so this advise goes for a stock setup too.

Re: no spark of coil
Gents thanks for advice Im angry at myself for not seing this. I took the coil lead that runs to the distibutor, and checked for spark and nothing. Also checked the fuses all still ok. Will check the 12v from ignition toninght as I did not have a mulititesterat home.
Ons question, would the stock points and condensor work with the bosh coil?.

Re: no spark of coil
should do
post a picture or name of the module you are running.
If it is what we are thinking, then it is a points replacement kit, not a proper electronic ignition (even though it is advertised as such). Being a points replacement kit it will only work in the place of a points system. If you hook it up to a electronic ignition coil (like it would make sense as its often advertised as an electronic conversion), then the module will last for a few seconds if you are lucky.
Measure the resistance of the wires in the coil (12V terminals) and let us know

Re: no spark of coil
Guys how can I make sure of the year model of the engine? David of flat4racing said l could go the stock points and condensor way on that coil, but I dont have the year model.

Re: no spark of coil
Hear is a golden tip, when you using a module "and they are dam expensive now" , crimp a round lug on you black wire / negative and that go's on your coil, and the positive side you crimp a female lug and on the coil get one of that male dubbel lugs that can bolt on positive side of the coil. I know dave them even modified the kits they sell that it can go on one way now.

Re: no spark of coil
the year isnt really important. just ask for a 1600 or 1300 points and condenser. There are two different types, so if you have your old ones you can use them as samples. I dont know if both types will fit or if they are interchangeable with the condensers. But they will both work for your coil.Pinch wrote:Guys how can I make sure of the year model of the engine? Also, get rid of your pretty clear dizzy cover. These things are for show, not for go. This might actually be your problem too.

Re: no spark of coil
I'm with Tony on that part of the IMPI clear dizzy covers. they are mdae for 009 dizzy's, They start cracking after time and they like to cause static crap inside it.Tony Z wrote:the year isnt really important. just ask for a 1600 or 1300 points and condenser.
