Knocking sound

Post by Pinch »

HI guys, I have a knock at the rear as soon as I take my foot of the accelerater, could it be the mouniting in the front of the gearbox.
I have removed the gear lever, to to it, but dont think that could be the problem though.

I did remove the inspection plate and see that the gear rod thing is hitting the body ?

Hi,
I would look at all your mounts, gearbox, and engine.

If you do the one, you may as well do them all.

your engine shouldnt really move much when driving. It sits on flexible mounts, but they shouldnt give you a " huge rocking of the engine in reverse"
check that your mounts arent broken. Also, check that your clutch bouden tube is correct. If this is too straight then it can induce rocking of sorts with the clutch juddering instead of operating smoothly.
Did this start before or after your replaced the front mount?

Hi Tony,

Only after I replaced the mount but it was going good no problems. Thursday I fitted a 30/31 pict and also took the shitter oit to lube. The my son went for a drive around the block and all of a sudden, as soon as you decellerate it knocks on eitherthe gearbox or tranny not sure but the gear link move downwards. No sound iv you pull away or shuddering clutch. I also did the bowden tube and fitted spacers and thought that was the problem but took all out. I did had a shudder occationally butnot constant. That is why I did the Bowden tube. I then took all spacers out and still knock sound.

Ja hell the 3rd front mounting broken in 2 months, what could be the cause. Firts the original, then a Midas mounting and the 3rd was one from volksieworld in Capetown.

Please tell me it was just a bad mounting, I will try and post pic of 2nd mounting.

have you changed all the mountings or just the one? It could be that the engine is moving around on the rear mounts and thus breaking the front mount.
Also check if your framehorns arent bent or if the gearbox carrier bolt is coming loose.
