I was waiting for that observation.
That is the reason I did not do anything on the clam shell untill I had fitted the motor.

The clam shell does indeed clear the motor, the only mod I had to do was cut a notch out the bottom of the clam shell for the exhaust

By the way thanks for the build manual it has really helped me as I have already fabricated alot of the extra brackets and goodies.

These pics are obviously of when I finally got around to spraying the first coat of primer, I sprayed it on quite thick so as to fill in most of the minor surface scratches it had picked up, the larger and more deeper ones were filled in.

I am thinking of at least 4-5 coats of primer to get the finish that I want with a LOT of flatting in between and then a final coat of grey primer.

The "Driver" sitting on the wrong side is my youngest son who is under the impression that this is his car

Only actuallt read through it now looks like a fun thing to taCkle. But would assume it will take patients and alot of swearing to get everything 100%. Like the progress sofar. Keep it up!

I am glad the manual (I use the term lightly) could help you. You are very welcome. Would be interesting to see how your clamshell opens. What are you going to do to stiffen it so as not to sway?

I am hoping to fit the complete motor this weekend so that I can make 100% sure that the clam shell fill fit.

There are two uprights on either side of the wheels That I intend to to use as stiffeners for the rear.

After much deliberation and searching for a set of seats a friend informed me that he had a mould for bucket seats and that he would only charge me about R200.00 to make a set of basic single layer bucket seats if I supplied the fiber glass which I thought was quite reasonable, but since I was pn leave week before last I asked he for the loan of the mould and gave it ago myself

From the above pics one can see taht it did not come out to shabby, they are only a single layer of fiber glass and I need to lay a few more layers on to strengthen them.

The "red" seat is the actual set and next to it is the mould.

Only thing is it takes about 3hr to make the darn thing.

The second seat is now made although they still need to be finished and padding has to be made for them, am thinking of a red and black colour.
Still deciding whether to attach beetle rails (anyone got a set of old buggered beetle seats that they want to throw away) or go with the universal sliding rails

On mine I actually had to cut recesses into the floor pan to get the seats to sit lower so that it looks like you are sitting in the car and not on top of it. Obviously they are not adjustable so I made very sure of my seating position before attaching them to the floor. I made a shallow u-shaped bracket attaching to the floor pan and to the front of the seats so that the seats can tip forward. With the LWB you have quite a lot of storage space behind the seats and I kept the battery where it is on a beetle.

That was my initial plan to locate the battery behind the seat but I decided against that and made the bracket and welded it at the rear as the manual suggests.

I think that I will go the same route as you did when I get around to the seating. Just not sure that I will cut thepan
