Just remember to fit all the cooling tinware before you start driving. Otherwise you will cause permanent damage and soon suffer from dropped valve seats, collapsed piston skirts, etc.


Especially in a sealed compartment kombi application, it is ultra-ultra critical for adequate cooling to have all the cooling tinware in place, and your seal around engine should be in good condition. As in: you should not be able to see the ground below when looking into the engine compartment. It must be air-tight, and only draw cool air from outside via the vents.
Otherwise the used hot air will just be recirculated back into the cooling fan's intake. Getting hotter and hotter each time the air passes around.
This is especially critical with a type 4 engine, where the fan's intake is right there where the hot air exits.

Your question about the carb? The carbed version of the type 4 originally had twin 34pdsit2 and 34pdsit3 carbs, (one basically a mirror image of the other).
