Thanks for the offer Roelof, but v spares is going to shorten everything for me including the pan, selector shaft and cables (new).

Thanks for the info Bugger. May I ask - is that your buggy on the strip (foto that was posted) and may I copy those side bars next to the driver?
By an "upright" fan do you mean a standard fan?

My day got better today - received the kit. Now some serious buiding can start.

Yip I bought just the shell from V spares and built a t4 2.3 motor for it
and you welcome to copy safety ideas

You can look at IMPI`s threads more about upright fan housings for t4
I built my own and had a mould but that has gone down with Venom cars

Armants one works gr8 I got no idea what he charges 4 it now
Adapterplates Available for Rotary in Beetle and others aswell

Yes you are 100% correct - so far everything is from v spares.

Bugger ( it feels wrong to call you that - may I call you Pierre?) can I ask you the detailed specs on that buggy motor?

Thanks

What do I need? What do I not need!

Here's the motor that I got today - After talking to some people I'm confused - as far as I know where motors are concerned you only get type 4 and type 1. So someone told me this is type 2 (comes out of a kombi) Can you identify it? it's 2liter kombi but as far as I know, still a type 4 engine. Engine number starts with CU and on the net it's identified as type 2 - 1979 to 1983 model. No fuel injection.

Then biiiig puzzle - I need to fit the beetle flywheel to the crankshaft to get it to connect correctly to the gearbox. What is the best way to do that?

Image

Last but not least - I'm searching for carburetors - any ideas?

Much appreciated

Sorry - memory leak - forgot to answer your question. My plan is to take it apart myself, have an engineering shop do all the balancing/gasflowing of heads and do the cam and then I'll put it together again. I haven't got a lot of experience with this specific motor, but I thought to get the Bentley workshop manual.

Thanks

What from the std cooling did you get with top plates etc :?:building a buggy you could leave the std cooling a altenator only that it takes weight further back from the wheels
Cu exhaust port should be square port thats good and not deep fitting ovel port noting wrong with them thoug
Type 2 is just another word for Kombi as type 1 is for beetle type 2 also came with t1 motors at first
Did you get the kombi fly wheel with :?: use that with minour mods

Now, listen carefully...this gets complex...

The seller was half right...

'73 Bays' (curved windscreen) used TYPE 4 engines.

A "Bay" is a TYPE 2 T2.

A 'split' bus is a TYPE 2 T1

It gets confusing then..."wedge-shape" buses were known as T 25 here, and from what I know, T 3 in the USA.

A TYPE 1 is a "Beetle"...but the official term "Beetle" was only picked up and used by VW much later...'70s I believe. I don't recall the official year offhand.

Hp is how fast you hit the wall, and Torque is how far you take the wall with you."

Thanks - that link is great!

No - flywheel was sold already by the time I got there, is it hard to get one?

So if I understand this correctly - Type 2 is the bus it came out of, but the motor is still a type 4?

Parts missing: most of the top tin and alternator, distributor, coil, intake manifolds and carburetors, linkages.

Now I'm going to go " swotting " those type 4 pages!

CU later

Early Bays had TYPE 1 engines, and then changed to TYPE 4 engines.

A "Bay" is a Type 2 T2.

'T' and 'Type' are NOT the same thing. :)
