I'm Lulu. Just recently bought a 63 split kombi - RHD. Assembled in SA and I need help with the M plate! Trying to figure what colour my bus was! Help anyone?! The paint code is 0/• what Is that?!

Welcome to our airhead forum, us Volks are always happy to welcome a new addict to the group.

If your bus is an SA assembled bus, You will find very little of the info on the Vin Plate, and on top of that with VWSA fires, bad record keeping, the codes are mostly mystery to us all.

There are however a few guys here on the forum who have made it their ambition to collect as much details as possible that could help others.

Please find an un-molested bit of paint work somewhere on the bus, like under seat, in the cubby hole(glove box) or under some upholstery, and take a photo of that Post that pic here and I am sure someone will be able to identify it very quickly.

Please start a Project post here on the forum, and post your progress with photo's, you will find that will draw endless offers of advice and assistance in your effort to get the bus to your level of completion.

Hi Ya'll.
My name is Lee. 40yrs. Living in Johannesburg.
In December 2016 I bought a T2 highlight double cab which I am in the process of restoring. It is a mid to late 70's but not with the original engine which is sad.
I've only developed a love for the VW Kombi over the past few years. I used to drive one around in my early 20's putting up show house boards but didn't quite appreciate it back then.
I look forward to chatting to a few of you. I think that I am going to need all the help I can get.

Hey All,

I'm Rob.
Also new to Aircooled VW SA, I'm 27, live in Greenstone Hill, JHB.
I bought a 71' beetle from my wife's colleague in October 2015 and it stood for just over a year waiting to be restored until I decided it's time to get the little guy restored last month.
It's currently at Vdubtech getting painted, new interior, etc. Also planning to put widened steelies, restore engine, gearbox and suspension (depends on the cost). It's going to be a dark blue and I am seriously thinking of going slightly classic and putting a white wrap over the door panels and partial front and rear fenders.

Hoping to get it back in March/April and start cruising on the weekends, meeting up with other aircooled guys in the area, etc. So hoping to find a beetle club to join and go to events.

I'm Jed. I own a canary yellow (hence the forum nickname) '77 standard Beetle. It's a rolling restoration and is currently a daily driver. This is my first restoration and the Bug having bitten, most certainly not my last. This is a great forum and I'm delighted to have found it.

oops sorry I didnt introduce myself.

My name is Bruce (obviously) and I am based in Randpark Ridge in Johannesburg. My old man had a split window that he used every day for business in the 80's in Zim while I was growing up and so always wanted one. Wish he still had his so I could take it over but it was sold in the 80s for a newer vehicle when his business started taking off.

I know nothing about them but can tell the difference between a split window and bay window (how good is that? ) and while reading through this forum I have now learnt the difference between low light and high light, but you will have to excuse the many, possibly mostly daft questions I may ask in the future.

I currently dont own a bus/kombi (which is preferred?) or anything aircooled, but I have started looking for a bay window as a project to do with my daughters who have been bugging me for years to get one. My ultimate bay window would be a drivable 1972 (my birth date) Niagra Blue and white bay window with the low lights and small tail lights but realise that i may have to be a bit negotiable on that, so dont mind having to do some work on it. (like rebuilding the motor and gearbox which i would probably do anyway)

Oh and btw i have until September to find one and get it driving as my daughters matric dance is then and she would love us to chauffeur he to the dance in it........probably not an original idea but I like it as i can keep an eye on them then.

I'm a new member, name's Brandon, 43 from Honeydew..just bought a 67 notchback, with a badly stained rear window. Seems there is liquid trapped between the glass somehow? I am looking for a replacement glass if anyone has any leads?
