Yea, it is Alert. They brought in 10 as a test run to see if the market exists.
I phoned at 11am and they had already sold 4. I bought the one in CPT for a fellow forum member who couldnt get there.
Needless to say, I think there will be stock in the future too.
The R8400 price is for this batch only, the actual price on their system is just under 10K excl VAT.
I havent unpacked it yet, but it definitely feels heavier than a stock case, which makes it Aluminium. Dont quote me though
It differs from the bubble top aluminium version, in that it is not filled in behind the number 3 cylinder, is not clearanced for a stroker crank, and does not have the raised top. It is as @slak said, a stock replacement case.
These sell for close to $900 in the States, so quite a good deal at R8400. Thanks Tony for grabbing this one for me!
Well, thanks to Blitzkrieg for highlighting the Gumtree add, I just thought Tony would want, so I contacted him, and I think he got that last one for you.. But good Teamwork.
Yea, thanks Alan
Riaan told me about them and said he wanted one. When @acpaterson gave me the details (we had no internet for 3 days and no power for two thanks to the storm...), I phoned out of curiosity and found out that it is Alert. I then contacted Riaan again and told him I was going to be in the area later the day and could do him the favour if he paid me back ASAP. Job done.
Thanks again Alan. I just wish I had the funds to buy one for myself...
The block is aluminium and is a universal case, meaning it has the T3 dipstick tube hole and the bus engine hanger mounts.
Being Aly, it is a fair bit heavier than magnesium.
The casting is rougher than magnesium.
It doesnt have an engine number, you'll have to sort that one out yourself.
The Aly is stronger than the magnesium.
New is usually better than old. This block is sold in substantial numbers so all the issues have been sorted out. Old cases can often be good, but might also hide some issues.
For stock use, it will need a going through to ensure it is properly clean - for modified use, I think its a good starting point.
I'd be happy to use it....
Jaco, with your connections, I'd get one of their cases and use those.
Might be worthwhile to get one.
The add expired so I am sure they are all sold. Did try to phone Alert in JHB but they taking stock today. The one
in PTA does not know anything about it. Is it direct from them or does it need to go through Okkie?
The way I see it with the "no number" is a good thing, you punch your old number then there is no paper issues or is it risky to do it?
Phone Okkie on Monday.
The guys in CPT didnt know about the special price either when I first spoke to them.
I know of at least 1 engine which has had an old casings number punched into it and have spoken to a few people who have done similar. I suppose it all depends if you have a case that is scrap or not.
