New to aircooled

Post by WouterMerwie »

Hi everyone. I am new to the aircooled life. I just bought a 1600 twinport beetle. Didn't even see the year model I was so excited. My wife obviously thinks I am mad, my boys think I am the man and my neighbour says he's glad its not him. Lol. Image

Welcome Wouter - I hope you have many happy miles in your bug.
Step 1 - close off those big holes in the lower rear engine tin, they let hot air from the exhaust into the engine bay and this increases the temperature of the air that cools the engine. Cool air comes from the top, hot air goes out the bottom, you need to keep these two apart!!!

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

Wouter,.... do not take the advice lightly. These manne know what they are talking about,.......close that thing up before you travel anywhere!
Whilst you are the man back at the ranch,.......enjoy it with the boys,....and don't forget to smooch mommy over as often as possible,.......it will bite you in the rear and ear !
Trust me,....keeeping everybody happy is a juggle!

I am also looking for someone in CT who can possibly help with lowering my beetle. So far I have Dave's at Flat Four Racing as a possible contact. I have a guy at work who has air suspension in his beemer so will find out from him as well.

Turns out my chassis at the back is bent. So my engine is sitting skew. So before I put in a seal I need that sorted.

So far I managed to get a new carb and new exhaust system. After a few issues with aligning the pieces and getting them to fit into each other, I managed to fit the exhaust. Hint... always get new studs and exhaust nuts with the kit and make sure u have a blow torch or something seriously hot to fit the pieces together... and I also needed a thread tapper because 1 of my stud holes on the engine was stripped.
