You melted your only two eyes ou toppie!! Talk to I and I would have been of some small assistance in this delicate matter! I have started the motor on the stand when you was with us but yes a empty tin with a few bolts and nuts in it made a better sound so back to the drawing board for me!Hahaha I am Back!?

retrovan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2017 6:35 pm OK so had you looked carefully, you would have seen the PO had cut all the metal out of the engine bay.
So I needed to make up side steel to bring the body back to the engine tins and fit a rubbers seal strip.
The steel work had to be cut to shape and a form of "C" strip had to be fitted to slide the engine rubber into.
So just to get to par for the course, from all the welding, I was rewarded with arc eye's but still completed the job.
The "C" strip was made of these cheap curtain rails and welded to the side of the steel work.
All is well and the seal is now complete.
Found the Doghouse back tin and doghouse air deflector set and will be fitting them today.
Till next time
Herman
Herman, nothing makes me more delighted to hear your suffering having to fix damages caused by a previous owner with the use of an angle grinder...

Re: Retrovans 75 Fleetline panelvan - Project
How did I know this was going to make your day....
Had the PO left the 6 cylinder Corvair motor in it would have been the sugar, but for the pissy little VW motor, there now is too much room.......
Think I would be better off fitting a 1200 Nissan motor and fitting a truck radiator into the front, with a few cutts of the grinder it should slip in very easy.

Hay , Sorry to hear about the engine being dud, but with the PO ability to fit the timing, I was wondering about the soundness of that motor.
Hopefully you can salvage some good parts from it and put it back together correctly.
Good Luck

Re: Retrovans 75 Fleetline panelvan - Project
So I have managed to get the motor into the Fleetline, and made up what ever steel that was cut out of the engine bay before.
Fitted the engine rubbers and the plates.
Now all that I have to do is the electrics for the motor, complete the fuel lines and fit the vacuum line to the brake booster.
as her are some photo's so long...
Till then
Thanks for looking

Re: Retrovans 75 Fleetline panelvan - Project
Seeing that there was a (reverse rotation) Corvair involved previously, there may now be 4 reverse gears?
(Unless the ringgear was flipped back, different box, or the Chevy had reverse rotation cams installed.)

Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Re: Retrovans 75 Fleetline panelvan - Project
Thanks Dawie, ..............No there was no Corvair motor, was just messing with Sean.
He keeps keeps accusing me of chopping cars, and I keep accusing him of being a interfering purist..
But all in good humour keeping the forum going.
Not sure why all the tins where cut out, maybe the PO was just about to fit a water cooled, but there is no sign of any radiator fitment or removal.
Have tested the gearbox by hand, and all is fine, but still have to put power onto it when the motor is running.

Re: Retrovans 75 Fleetline panelvan - Project
So ready to start motor in the morning.
Electric wiring done and working, just an issue with the dim and bright, but all else is working.
Will see if it runs and drives before going ahead with the last few jobs.
Till then

Re: Retrovans 75 Fleetline panelvan - Project
Thanks guys.
As my normal computer is in for a service on account that I dropped it off the table....
Now running off the wife's and do not want to load my photo's onto her computer.
Will do some photo's when it returns, but must say that the Fleetline runs smoother then the Bay, Has more power, and is much more of a pleasure to drive then other splits......
Very pleased with the up-right stance, gives it the aggressive look and the bigger wheels give the butch look I like,
and the look I started with the old Fugly, and carrier over to the Bay.
Still a lot of work to be done to her, but getting her running and testing her mechanica'ls was the most important to me.
Cracked the one front windscreen, so need to get a new one, and also realised that when I got the side mirrors, and shafts, I did not get the mount brackets to fix the mirror to the shaft, one would think it should be in the box
Must say, the booster brakes are excellent, the bay front beam is a treat, the big wheels give height and looks, the 1914cc motor has the power to drive this adorable form of transport with ease.
Sorry, but much chuffed with my creation.....
Till photo time.....
