Can you use a Golf oil filter on a type 4?

Post by stew 89 »

Morning guys and gals,

Can I use a city/mk2 golf oil filter on my type4 ? Reason, no one in Durban has the proper filter. I think the golf one is longer but because I dont go off road im not stressed about that.

Shot in advance for the help.

The only thing you need to match is the tread and the resistance to oil flow,

The bigger filter should give you less resistance, and thats what you want.

So if you can find these out, you can do it.

Best if the filter has a By-Pass valve then you know you safe.

the spares shops also have filter catalogs. You can go in with your filter number and they will check it against their catalog - thread size, OD, ID... and find one that matches.
