With the color coded wiring diagram and some common sense, you'll be able to do it yourself. get proper crimptool, automotive wire and lugs and Bobs your uncle

Freddie, I'm with the others on this one. Do It Yourself! From what I know about you through this forum, you are more than capable. Something that works for me is to use a piece of heat shrinking to cover joints when you extend existing wires. Just remember to slip the heat shrinking over the wire prior to soldering! I forget most of the time.

Going home yes that is a place a suppose.

Took almost 2 years to get to this point and damn I struggled with the gears!

Figured I will try sort out the gear lever shafts etc

And start with the wiring still lots and lots to do here but excited nonetheless

So some work needs to be done

So main plan is to start some light body work and obviously the wiring.

Even though there is an alternator fitted it is not charging and figured I must start here since I need to make sure battery charges so I can work on the wiring

Any suggestions on getting this one rebuild vs buying a new one if there is still available

Hi Freddie

Check the external regulator first, I have found them to be the first issue before an alternator.

The type4 alternator is not available locally. If it is suspect, it may be brushes or diodes. They can be rebuild.

Is the warning light coming on with ignition turned on?
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Well guys the alternator is not connected at the moment to anything.

Need to start from scratch.

Are you talking about the oil warming light ?

No, talking about the "gen" warning light. Your alternator will not charge without that globe connected. An alternator, unlike a generator, is not self-exciting. It needs the tiny current provided by that globe to start a tiny magnetic field.
