Post by jannodp »

Hi everyone, I want to put a Subaru WRX STI engine into a 1960s beetle. Does anyone know who in Gauteng can do this for me properly? :D

Get hold of Bugger, aka Pierre on the forum, his number is in the banner at the top of each page,

Has done a number of these.

Not sure why you want to do that, you will be able to hot up a VW aircooled motor for a lot cheaper with more enjoyment to the ride and will maintain the cars value if you keep it air cooled.

Talk to Pierre he can do both options.

So much as I agree with you Retro, nothing beats the sound of that WRX grunt.
Maybe a good audio system that's cleverly connected to the throttle to produce that sound whilst running an ac motor Image

while I do agree about the sound of the WRX, the fact is that the sound is made because of its properly kuk design exhaust system which was put together by accountants and not engineers. It not only robs the engine of power, but it is well known for killing exhaust valves.
So yes, it is likely that you'll be able to replicate the exhaust note on a beetle.

Yes, I was looking into replicating the exhaust note once upon a time and then I learned how bad their system really is and gave it up as a bad idea

LOL

Yes can help

But I prefere to to a Golf Conversion as they are much more Reliable and Cheaper than the Subaru

But a nice 1835 Beetle Engine will save you a packet full of cash for a nice Sound System

Hi Guys i am a newbie...58 Racer based in Kzn Ballito area.
I would like to install a twin side draft 1.8 race golf motor into my 58 beetle.
The 58 is not in great shape hence the conversion idea have both Car and engine, idea is to build a street racer with roll cage good for track days and some fun.
Beetle is completely stripped out so rolling chassis ready for start !!
I would really be grateful for any guidance thanks in advance..

Good day,
We do beetle conversions @ JC Cloete motor services. We fit the golf engine to the beetle transmission or we can build it with a golf gearbox and engine fitted to the beetle, feel free to contact me on 0718564201 Jaco to discuss the possibilities. We are based in Randburg, we also do custom spray painting and panel work.
