They sell it up here in Gauteng for something like R50 each at Turbo Toys, which is down the road from where I am.
If you don't come right, and want, I can always send you a set or 2?

Thanks boet,....no onePE seems to stock it,....even theguys that sell electric fans,......comes in the kit ! But not seperate.

Anyhow,..... Most of the guys I talk to puts me of this type of fastener,....... ".they" say it eventually causes a leak from vibration,.....rubbing through the cooling fins ? Don't know if it will be. One year or ten ?
So I'll be redoing my design

Thanks. Haans

What car is this for, surely its easy to get the shroud that fits to the radiator with fan attached.

If its for the 4 letter begin with F car, the Golf combination is cheap and easy to fit, and big enough for the f$%# motor.

By the way, do you live on Villiers road, with a kombi and beetle in the yard..... ??

Retrovan,...nope not in Villiers ! The missus would have loved that!

The idea is to place an outside cooler in the ghia with a fan down next to the G-box ,....i.ve got everything. 230 x310 cooler,....

Take-off from the old "internal" cooler position.🛠

Yes!.....I've listened to all the advice given to me regarding a "remote" cooler,....but my gut tells me a remote cooler with a fan with a temp gauge and pressure gauge will sooth my "discomfort" in terms of keeping the engine cooler. With this I am not saying the Germans were not clever!!.....the advancement in technology has moved on with "improved" systems.

Feel free to convince me otherwise 🤔

No argument from me on that point.

What I have found easier, is to add to their systems rather then to replace it.

Thats why I fitted an extension sump from Volkspares, and a small scoop which I will later take off when she has fully run in.

The extended oil sump, gives extra cooling and reassurance that you have more oil in the sump so you will not run short on a long run.

By fitting a Oil temp gauge and a rev counter, I have learned that the aircooled motor cooling ability is best at 3000rpm.

The minute you get over the 4000rpm mark, the cooling/ heating ration goes to :bn:

Now when I work any of my aircooled hard, I take it back to 3000rpm, for a few minutes and it cools right down.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Tony & Retrovan,...oil to be used?,......will check out some feedback,....some fancy shell product.

Engine is stock 1641cc with single port heads,..ran two years ago on a diesel oil,...with high 'heat' properties. So after startup I will drain and refill the system with something great that does'nt break the bank,..some 15/40 type
Ps fitting oil filter into the "system" as well.therefor think I will add at least 1.5 lt to the system,..cooler; pipes and filter

Who knows what I can scratch out ? Dual carbs?,.......better exhaust? ...homemade 'sebring' style?........you never know

Talk to me !
Just want to get it moving again !

15W40 is a good viscosity to run and will keep the engine cooler than a 20W50 will.
My bus has a T1 engine (2110cc) and a T4 long ratio gearbox - thats the dreaded combo that kills T1 engines due to high load, and low rpm... running with 2L sump extension, Rimula R4X 15W40 oil and a few mods, the engine doesnt overheat - no filter, no extra cooler.

Your 1641 in your Ghia should not overheat ever with a stock cooling system, if it does, you have other issues

As Tony said 15W40 is perfect in a Diesel type of oil, for heat tolerance, do not go to these fancy chemical oils, they breakdown on heat.

Just remember you do want the oil to get to above 100 deg. C every now and then to steam off the water condensate that all engines make.

If not. you will get foam in your sump, and it will not be able to pump it through the engine.

So beware of over cooling.

Thanks Herman,....the plan is to have the cooling fan on a relay through a switch in the cockpit,... so it can be controlled.

There is some or other electronic temp sensor control unit that can be put in-line and it will autmatically let oil run through the cooler above a certain temp,....BUT the budget is being watched as we speak!!!,..by you know who !!!😪🤒
Temp gauge is not negotiable !

Thanks for input
