How long do you have your VW?
Hi all, I just realised I got my Beetle today in 1992 around 27 years and thought it would be interesting to hear how long you had yours.
Any one had it since new? Anyone had it 40 or more years?

I bought my first beetle (1968 model) in 1988, still have it ( kind of), its a beach buggy build by me in 2001, my favourite air-cooled
I have a Ghia (1958 model) bought in 2002 and a Beetle (1968 model) bought in 2017.
I have never sold an air-cooled yet.

No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

Re: How long do you have your VW?
I have had my CI Camper for 18 yrs 2nd owner. Needs a lick of paint but the interior is still good had cushion covers made so original upholstery under the covers I fitted cruis control and after 3 engines I decided to go diesel as cheaper and if you travel up north and run out of fuel diesel is easy to get as very few vehicles run on petrol.Got all the tents and rear door shower compartment Easy awn. With my back problems this is the best vehicle for me. Not the fastest thing on 4 wheels but it gets me where I am going. Very nice for game viewing as you can park at watering hole and you can cook lunch make tea have a nap stand up head room,we live 10kms from the game Park and enjoy the easy access to Reitvlei nature reserve.

Re: How long do you have your VW?
I bought my 1963 Dormobile camper on my 30th birthday in 1995, nearly 25 years ago.
I bought The Ratmobile, one of my 1975 Fleetline panelvans, which is in my barn awaiting restoration, in 1993, more than 26 years ago.
I've driven both cars over 270,000km each.

Re: How long do you have your VW?
Can't relate to the VW part of it. Had my wifes current Touran for a year and a half... Bus for almost a year now. Was for my wife's 40th birthday!
My Capri on the other hand we got in 1995, I bought it from my parents around 2006. So, physically owned for 19years, but had it for 24.
My wife's Anglia we got as her first car in 2001. So that is 18 years.

Re: How long do you have your VW?
My 1975 baywindow joined the family in 1991. I was only 5 years old then. It was quite beat up and already had the camper interior build in and all those strange 80’s editions like the sunroofs, teardrop windows etc fitted.
When I was about 9 years old, I had nothing to do on the weekends being stuck at my parents work every weekend while they work, my oldman told me to try fix up the kombi. Well, after about 1 year it was done, not the most professional job by far, but that was my very first attempt. This is also when it became mine.
This bus survived primary school, high school, university and I still take it for a drive near every week to work.
To this day, it remains my all time favorite bus.
I don’t believe my father could ever have imagined what would come many years later by trying to give me this vrot kombi to keep me busy on weekends. 41 busses later and counting....

Re: How long do you have your VW?
My baywindow kombi... was bought new by my father. On 1 Jan 1980 i took it over from him.
Oval beetle 1957- Bought it in 1984, took a few years to rebuild.
Doublecab 1966- Got it mid 80's.
(Still have them all.)
Last time i sold a car was in 1994. So far never owned a watercooled vehicle.

Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Re: How long do you have your VW?
I bought my first beetle when I was in matric in 1994. It was a 76 model. I sold it later years. Will see if I can post a pic of it.
I was driving in an industrial area about 13 km from my house and did see a 52 split beetle in a warehouse through an open door. Did go and ask the owner (old toppie) if he wanted to sell but he did not want to know anything about that.
Time went on and I asked him again. He said only on one condition, if I have to take the 1956 oval at his house too.
We agreed on a price of R20k for both cars. Got them in February 1996.

Re: How long do you have your VW?
Got my 1st beetle at the age of 14, we lived on a farm and needed transport to the school bus stop 10 miles away.
Was a gift of an German that drove a split bus down from Germany.he buddy drove back in the bus, and he bought a 2nd hand Beetle.
after 2 years he went back by air and drove the Beetle to Jan Smuts, but it broke on the way there, so he called me and said it I collect it, I can have it.
That was the start for my love of the VW Aircooled.
Then Had the Fastback and the variant (SW)
Then went over to Passat. Drove every model they made till 2000.
Got back into the Aircooleds when the kids left school and I had time on my hands.
1st one was the Fastback in March 2011

Re: How long do you have your VW?
Got my first aircooled in 2006, Fleetline splitty project.
Couple months later on 31 Aug 2006, I bought my panelvan. That was the first time I drove in a split and I drove it home.
Sold my daily driver, Golf 2 16valve, to buy it. The kombi was my daily for a good couple of months.
Had the Oval project for about 6 or 7 years now. This is also the first beetle I have ever owned.
