Big Yella: How to build a trike

Post by Ricoffy »

Hi Guys,

Anyone know if this site is reliable?

It seems like a project I could do, but I am weary of unknown internet sites. It would be awesome to be able to replicate that trike and have a building manual for the get-go.

Does anyone know this site or used it before?

http://www.bigyella.com/index.htm

Cheers and thanks,
Ricoffy

It's your poison !!,,...my neighbour is embarking on this trail as well!! Not from sthis site though!!
He's purchased a 80% complete trike and a frame!!

Hope you are not going to cut a beetle for this!!

Trikes don't do well off road!!!🤣😄🤔

Trikes are designed to hit every pothole.
Wanted parts:
Left sunvisor
Sink faucet
Exhaust to swap for Beetle exhaust

I hope not to cut a beetle. The search for an old beach buggy has already begun.

I am excited. It seem like a fun project!

If you fit a D/P 1600 motor, what are the chances of the front wheel lifting when accelerating hard in first gear? I've heard nightmare stories about that happening - some guys say these trikes are undriveable for just that reason.

Is there any way, apart from adding weight to the fork, to compensate for this?

Wheelie Bar !

Unless you really weight the front down, which is near impossible on a trike, it will always lift on hard acceleration. You will have to get used to it and ease of from a standing start.

I have been to plenty bike rallys and seen some real nice trikes but have seen some death traps along with a few off road incidents where they have left the road and ended up in the farmers fence, going to fast. Make sure you are a good welder.

The most important part on a trike build is the steering damper

Make sure its a strong one, this will stop tank slap.

Biggest reason for trike road departures.

OMW, I just googled "tank slap"...

I knew it as death wobble.

Thanks for the head-up!

For advice you could also speak to Clive of Beetle Engineering in Alrode, he builds them and also rides one himself
