Do you know the history of this car? I would like to get in contact with previous previous owner. The previous owner had the car since 2018...Jdt1976 wrote:This is a nice car, very neat and solid.

It was Frik de Klerk. Search VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE SP1600 REGISTER on FB, he was admin of the page.Herbie wrote: Mon Mar 30, 2020 6:30 pmDo you know the history of this car? You will find some pics of your car on his FB page.
Not sure if he immigrated to NZ where his daughter lives or he just left the scene. His cell number not working anymore.

Re: 1978 SP Beetle Project
Thanks so much...the car was really beautiful at that time...it really gives a good yard stick for how it should look like. I see the date stamps were latest May 2018...it correlates with the previous owner who bought it Novemberish 2018. It has been standing in a hanger since then, until I bought it two weeks ago. I can't believe it faded so much in the last 3 years though. I did email Frik and the email came back. I also messaged him on FB but I am not sure it will work, it seems like he is off the map since 2016 on FB.
Thanks so much for the info in any case

Re: 1978 SP Beetle Project
When I got the car it would not idle. IMPI said it will require a good tune up and setting of the dual carbs, which I still believe is required. In the process of changing some of the purple paint back to silver / black I found the one carb manifold bolt loose. It was so loose the carb could actually wiggle. After lots of effort due to no space left at the back I managed to tighten the manifold bolts. She now idles like a dream. I removed the stickers and cleaned up the engine bay.

Now you need a stock distributor cap

Get yourself exhaust nuts if you can. They are 12mm acres which helps.
I actually imported nuts that are 11mm across and these definitely help, but they are costly
Looking good, pity you can’t go for a spin
