Thats bad, do you spend your nights sitting by the front door with the shotgun .....

So I have removed the engine and gear box including all levers and issues so as not to have them damaged during the paint stage.

Will also be doing the final under engine body work and bracing,

Then its to the works bench to start reworking al the small parts and getting them ready for the painted MeFusco.

Have a issue that you guys could possibly help with and that is the speedo.

As you all know the most important is that I use as much Beetle parts, and if not, at least Aircooled vw parts of some sort.

Now as I do not have a hollow front axle to fit the speedo cable into, this means I will have to come up with plan "B"

DO NOT want an digital GPS speedo, 1st to expensive with our exchange rate, and 2nd its not Beetle, have a refurbished beetle speedo ready to fit.

Now the only non moving point on the drive is the Gearbox CV joint, the drive shaft moved up and down with the suspension.

My thinking is to maybe fit a bike sprocket onto the CV joint, using the 6 bolts to hold it in place, then to have a 2nd sprocket on a shaft of the same size connected with a chain.

The speedo will be fitted into the center shaft of this 2nd sprocket running on bearings mounted on a bracket fixed to the gearbox.

The disadvantage of this is the size will be approx. 125mm dia. for each sprocket.

The other is to have a toothed belt bush heat shrunk onto the CV joint outer, and to run a wheel or belt from this pulley.

What you guys think, please share your ideas.

Thank you

Till then

Hear what you say Nick, but the speedo must run one revolution for every one revolution of the wheel.

And nothing in the gear box runs at that ratio but the output side shafts.

So Me thinks, that would be the easiest point to fix a drive for the speedo cable.

Thanks Nick,

No there is nothing,it may be the best to blow R8K on a GPS gauge,

as I can have one customized to match the other 4 little gauges I got from Speedy-Quip the other day.

Not sure how to explain lack of inheritance to my kids. ????

Well Sunday has come and gone.

But MeFusco is still waiting to go to paint.

Have been doing small things that can still be done on him, but mainly busy getting the parts ready for fitment once he gets back.

Need a lot of parts from spares suppliers but as they are all closed, will have to wait.

Till next time

Just an update, managed to find a GPS speedo with a more acceptably price, and which matches my other 4 gauges

Landed with custom fees its 1/3 of the the neared and 1/4 of the price of most.

Just hope the sale is not cancelled due to lockdown, but should get here after.

Also stripped and prepared the Disk brake slave cylinders on the Opel struts waiting for the seals,

and the Duel MC has also been striped and prepared for new rubbers.

Profiled the holes for the indicator side lights.

Also Cad drawn the front bumper as well as the tail section of the loading ramp cover.

Cut and fitted the fuel float level switch into the tank as it was the hide away tank that was in the Bay when I got her.

The "A" frame has been completed and mounts onto the bumper brackets.

The only thing now to do is to draw up the anti-roll bar, but that would have to be made by the spring company when they open.

So now you guys are up to date
