Re: Betty the Oval - Donovan D - ex-MINCE
Bit of progress on the old girl. Decided to give it a go at the interior. So far so good, might not be 100% but seems ok.
Firstly got some felt from the place in Maitland. The felt is horrible, its very flaky/breaky if I can call it that.
Also bought some adhesive spray from the local hardware store. This had a nice nozzle that didnt make to much of an overspray mess and was quite easy to control where the glue went. But the glue was no good.
The material is a sort of hesian material. I was hoping for something with a bit more stretch and more heavy duty. If you spray too much glue on it goes straight through the material and leaves a mark. I did the rear window and a day later I was not happy with the end result. I pulled of everything, cleaned up the felt off the body and started again.
Luckily I had a big enough piece of extra felt that I forgot about. This felt is a lot more solid and does not fluff apart. Also bought the alcolin spray. The nozzle is like a normal spray can, it goes everywhere. But it sticks ! Redid the rear section and its loads better. Started with the roof but could only go halfway as Im waiting for the vinyl.

After many years the rear window is in.
Busy with the carpets, seats are being done and I should get them back end of next week.
Once I get the seats back I can continue with the headliner install.

Looking nice Donovan.
You are brave to tackle interior upholstery yourself, I find it a rather tricky and frustrating job.

Re: Betty the Oval - Donovan D - ex-MINCE
Thanks all, its not perfect by far, there are a few places I messed it up.
I had the seats done and got the wind lace pieces back. This allowed me to continue with the rest of the interior.
Really happy with the seats and colour.
Next step is to start with the door cards, do final trim on the carpets and get it out to be edged.
The rest of the roof is also a bit of an unknown. The ragtop is white so the rest of the roof will probably be white.

The color on the seats is spot on....any other color would have been wrong

That upholstery looks super good. Makes me think you are an upholsterer by trade.
