Herman,....205/70's do fit,......me dad had it on his fishing buggy !

Rims are a VERY personal liking! and I will not go there,......it can "deepen" friendships or kill it off instantly !

Like the progress you are making at the speed of light !!, is Hahn going to George ?

WEEK 14 of build.

This week we managed to get all the new wiring into the Hahn, made up the harnesses, connected all the gauges

Fitted all the extras such as the window washer, USB port Fog lights and relays,and fitted all the lights.

As this is a fiberglass body, it has near double normal car wires as you constantly have to run an earth, or negative wire to make every thing work.

Also cut holes for the roof vents inside and out, as well as the interior light.

Bleed the brakes tuned the engine and set the carb.

Please note that the we are still running the 13" trailer rims and tyres up front, as the mag rims for the front have to be reduced from 8 1/4 J to 6J

Than we took her for her 1st ride under her own power and electrical controls.

The excitement of the drive blanked out the pain of sitting on a rusty seat frame with bad foam padding.

The Hahn was made right in the midst of the sports car era.,

Originally had two more, a amp meter and a vacuum meter, but it was a Bit much for me,

as I grow up in that time and racing cars only had the more important gauges,

as you did not have much time to look at all of them,

Only the boy racers had as many as they could as it made the car look like a airplane.

Not much done this week as the health is slowing us down.

Did the sound proofing in the back of the cab to reduce engine noise.

We boxed out the air inlet in the number plate frame that is piped to the circulation fan in the cab.

Fitted the piped for this air flow, and also did the window washer bottle and pipe work.

Mounted the two new spray nozzles on the bonnet of the car and closed the old single hole

Fitted the new spot/fog/Driving lights and I find they match the curves of the car better then the old rusty square ones.

Also drilled out Bay wiper arms and re-bent the tip offset to the opposite side as the Mr1 Escort wipers are not to be found for a decent price.

WEEK 16 of build

We did manage to do a few things to the Hahn to get her ready for the spray stage.

BUT..

Before we get there there are a few things that have to be done.

We Prepared the doors and cleaned out the 10 years of muck that she has collected in the doors, serviced and oil the working parts.

As the window regulators where non existent, we found out that the OEM used VW regulators and reworked them to fit.

So to spare the addicts the pain of seeing the brand new regulators being cut up , straitened, re-bent, cut , welded, and fitted.

We will not show photo's of this being done.......

we will show you a photo of it being completed in the door.

The other major issue was the wood strips for the interior door skirts fixing,

We removed the old rotten strips when the car was striped, but only fitted the new ones now, this is where the :bn: hit the fan.

Because now that the body is on the chassis, you can not get your hand into fit or tighten the nut as the chassis stiffener is in the way.

Now had there been a manual, it would have told us to fit them when the body was off......

So these where fitted with one accessible screw and a lot of window glass sealer along the length.........

The other thing that took some time was the steering wheel. Due to the car being a sports car, and very low in body height,

One has to lay-drive or you bump your head, which in turn pushes your feet forward and your hands and arms backward.

Because of this you either need monkey arms or the steering wheel has to be extended to get it into reach.

Thats why the Hahn has a deep dish steering wheel. with extension bush. this makes for a very ugly wheel.

Not wanting the screw ends in my face, all the time, we needed to do something.

Oh yes we also had the problem of the hooter button, , why you ask, well it never had one.

So into my project left overs store i went and wound me a horn button. Yes it reads VW now, but we will change it to read Hahn in time....

Having to cover the screws, and hide them as well as making a button mount took a bit of thinking

As well as a cover to hide the adapter disk that I turned in my workshop.

Well It was a full days work, but its done and looks a lot better then the original look as above.

Now you up to speed and we still waiting for parts to come in

Seeing that the Hahn is now a "she"...
Does it become a Huhn? or Hehn.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

As Hahn is "rooster" in German

As she has such nice curves, she can not be a "Rooster"

So she will have to be a Huhn (hen) with a name typo....

Because She's not a He, .. He's a She.. thats for sure....

WEEK 18 of build

Sorry that I have not updated this project, as One of us had to have a Big Op and it was impossible to do anything physical.

There has however been progress due to help and other assistance in keeping this here project ticking over.

The retro radio was found and the mags have been rebuilt for the front wheels.

The VW wide 5 hole spare has been cut down and a Golf steel rim center welded in, then sandblasted and powder coated.

The window frames where sandblasted and powder coated.

My Good friend Clem with the other Hahn has gracefully allowed me to have a mould taken off his cars backside,

This we have done and then we pulled a casting off that for the insertion into my cars backside.

So now we will trim off the chicken "hok" box off the back of the Hahn, trim the casting and re-glass the two into place.

This will bring my Hahn back to OEM spec.

This will be done in the next few week when we do the respray of the whole car.

As I am supposed to be immobilized for the next 4 weeks, it will be hell to keep this project going, but will do my best.

WEEK 20 of build

So yes we are moving on this project be it slow at this time.

The reason is that we are in the process of cutting the chicken box off the back off the car.

refitting the original streamlined shape and curves back on the back end as this is what makes this here cutie so shapely.

Will try and post progress photo's as we go, but not always easy.

Just one more mod that needs to be made is for the cooling.

The side ducts are to small to keep the motor cool on full load,

so not to mess with the shape of the car and the curves on the two back mud guards,

We cut the inner side of the duct and opened it up to increase the amount of air by approx. 25% per side.
