Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
Thanks Alan,
Yes we are on the mend, just need to get the Doc's all clear next week and we can try and be half normal,
Thanks Nick,
Yes will probably Paint the inside of the vent Matt black and fit a stainless mesh in front
Also have a plastic "oval hole" screen, which I will spray silver, but will have to see if its not too restrictive and what it looks like.
Will test both for looks and air flow.

Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
WEEK 21 of build
We are now in the delicate stage of making this here moulding fit PERFECTLY.
We can not follow the saying of " Measure twice, Cut Once"
Because we only have one moulding......
So we where measuring , and measuring and measuring , and measuring and then we cut just a little bit......
Then we started again with the lots of measuring..... and cutting just a little bit..
This is how we went for a few days... cut a small bit at a time.
Till we where happy it fitted as it should.
All jokes aside, this was intense
Here is the hole we landed up with , as we only had one chance to get it right.
Scary to say the least.
so then we fitted the trimmed insert, with a lot of anticipation..
We are happy with the fit, so now we will painstakingly glass the section in and make it structurally sound.
We will laminate the inside for extra security, and then flat it to a smooth blend so it looks as it was moulded in the factory.
Heres hoping.
Till next week

Still WEEK 21 of Build
Thanks Alan,
Yes we on a go slow at this moment as all body work is a slow and steady job, and you do a lot but see nothing.
Yes we are getting parts together and fixing others up to go back into the car when it gets done and sprayed,
BUT
Then its off to the to the seamstress for its new under wear, as the top dress would have been fitted by the spray job.
The back home for the final assembly.
As the Knysna show has been cancelled, we are hoping to take the Hahn to the Puma, Fest at Gariep
So yes am giving the lads a good talking to and getting the spirit up for the final push.
Here's hoping.

Looking nicer with that extension box from the previous Golf conversion gone. Imagine that it took lots of time to get to that point.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
Thank you Dawie,
Yes as I was sure we would be able to get it right, we also know we only have one change to get it right.
When cutting to change some thing is easier then cutting and fitting the original shape that it started life with.
We also had the insert in place and then got the one corner 100% true, fixed it with epoxy....
Then the next day or so, when totally dry we did the following straight section and epoxying it into place, when totally dry the next corner.... and so we went around during the passed weeks.
Now glassing up the underside for strength, so we can ascertain if we did get it right after all.....
Till then.

Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
WEEK 22 of build.
We finally have the insert section glassed in,
Need one more layer of resin over joint so we have some meat to grind off.
The underside has been glassed and smoothed out for strength.
Once the final top coat is dry, we will blend in the joint to get the original curves as it should be.
Then we will get to glassing the scoops and followed by body prep.
So here some photo's as of now, and see you next week.
Herman
We have the inspiration on the wall, final target look......
This is what she will look closesed to but we think better.....

Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
WEEK 23 of build
So we have managed to glass the insert a 2nd time and also started working the joint down with shaping and sanding.
The two air scoops on the engine air intake have been glassed into place and this allowed us to remove the tension bolts holding the vent fully open till it was glassed.
We also re-glassed the inside flaps over the scoops, as these had to be removed to cut and open the air intakes.
Also glassed the old air opening up front and closed it as it was cut for the radiator air intake.
So yes we are going but it all takes time but we are getting closer and closer to getting some paint onto it.
This is always the most frustration time, to see it your colour works on the shape and style of car.........

WEEK 24 of build
The insert is in place, all the other glass jobs are done, now its just flatting to get her ready for primer.....
The back end feels better then it looks at this moment, but she is correctly curved and near ready for prime.
Man are the 3 of us getting excited.....

Jip,...the "curves" must be felt......to be acceptable ! Love it !
"Glass" is very workable and forgiving,........if it does'nt feel right ? You do it again !
Coming together now!
