Splined casing nut?

Post by VW-rules »

Hi there. It's been a while since I was last here

Quick question. Of the 4 engine mounting bolts, two are at the bottom, one comes through from the starter motor and the 4th bolt screws into a splined nut that is pressed into the engine case. What is that 4th splined nut called and where can I get one?

It's a bitch trying to use a regular nut on there. Thanks. Cheers.

Like dual port engines have, offset oil cooler in the way there?
Something like this?

Might be called "clinch nut" or "press nut" or "pressed nut". For use in magnesium type 1 casing application i would image a wide flange version would insure best support.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

Also known as rivnut. Can't say I've seen that on my bus.
Wanted parts:
Left sunvisor
Sink faucet
Exhaust to swap for Beetle exhaust

I dont think you can buy those particular nuts loose.
Its a splined nut the is inserted into the case with a press fit - kinda like splined wheel studs.

Just leave that particular bolt/nut off and keep the other three.
I know of at least one engine with over 100hp that only has the three installed.
