Oil smells like feul

Post by SUZIE »

So i am finnished with the wireing on the buggy and want to service the buggy's motor, drained the oil last night, and to find that the oil smells heavy of feul, One thing come to my mind, FEUL PUMP LEAKING, strip the feul pump of and take it apart, the diafram still looks good and is soft, so what can the reason be for feul in the oil?
do you get service kits for the origenal VW feul pumps? or must i replace the complete unit?

If it was sitting for a while the fuel might have just leaked out of the carb. Happens... expecially it the front end of the car is higher than the rear.
If you have the rebuildable fuel pump, keep it if you still have rebuild kits.
But the problem most probably is your carb. Not that fuel pump.

It was standing for qiut a few months before i got the Buggy, and I have it already 4 months, and stated it only once in this time. You say it can be the carburator, what can it be the float or something that is to high?

Yes the feul pump is the one that can takes apart, will try and source a service kit for it.

Yes, the carbs tend to leak. they can even draw the fuel right out of the tank and fill up your crankcase. Just rebuild the pump first and run the motor. Might not be anything wrong with the carb. But run the motor first and check operation. then if there is still a problem you can rebuild the carb. Easy.

First and easiest thing...and the most likely...needle-and-seat.

Replace it. :)

I had this problem early this year...

The needle-and-seat had gotten stuck, and didn't work freely all the time.

On a slight incline the fuel would run back into the carb' and force open the needle-and-seat.

Luckily we discovered it just in time, otherwise I would have had bigger problems.
