Re: My 181
Got to fit the heater boxes and silencer.
This is where Vaders ButtPlug goes.
Before the motor is warm and the choke is already off, the airclear scoops warm air from the head. This warm air stops the vapourised fuel from freezing and sticking to the inlet manifold, leading to the flat spot.

Mocking the motor up. Tommorrow I have to repair the inlet manifold.
The body is comming along. Now its the small stuff like making sure the seams are correct.
Rear end is finished underneath.

Re: My 181
Hi,
Has any body got an intake manifold for sale.
Part number 113.129.701.an (carb side 35mm id)
Its for a 1600 TP motor with 34pict3 carb.
The important bit is the manifold warmer tube must not be blocked nor rusted through.
Thanks

Re: My 181
Fitting a 12-fuse box. The 181 originally had a 10-fuse box but I shall be fitting a wiring loom from a newer Beetle.

Making a blank out plate for the rear suspension A arms. This is to mask the areas I don’t want coated when the parts get powder coated.

Reset the mileage on the speedo.
Removing the crimped metal ring holding the whole lot together is the difficult part.
Fuel gauge out.
Remove these small screws and you can remove the speedo from its housing.
Tap the shaft out and you can slip the gears back to Zero.
The visable parts get a coat of paint.
And we have a new Speedo again.

Re: My 181
I once heard a story about a guy who had mastered the art of making thousands of km's on used cars 'disappear'.
One day, he was taking out the dash of a Merc when he found a small piece of masking tape stuck to the back of the odometer. It had a note scribbled on it that read 'Oh no, not again!'

Re: My 181
You could always hock up the speedo to a drill and just spin the km's off in a whizz at about -500km/h..... I did it to one of my clocks!!!

Re: My 181
The odometer gets fed from a worm gear. A drill will put stress on the gear at high speed and could strip it.
Something like revving your motor way beyond its limit and expecting it to fuction perfectly afterwards.
