Never seen this car before (not talking about all the hacked limousines and hearses), but is it a factory model?

This would in all likeliness be a Crayford (English) conversion. They built a lot of cabrios and estates based on sedans - some beautiful Mercs and old generation Audi.
Mercedes only built their own estates from the W123 series. The factory for them was in the old Borgward factory in Bremen.

Thanks for the info - I've always had a soft spot for a Benz station wagon. Another favourite of mine is the 'fintail' station wagon (pictured below), the Binz Europ 1100 (W110) - an ambulance, from a scene in the 007 movie 'Thunderball'. I just noticed, it is supposed to be the same location, but it seems like a different ambulance?
There is a collector in Bloemfontein that has a standard version, it is a beautiful car!
I have this Matchbox version of the Binz:

Have you seen the fintail hearse that comes to Piston Ring. Photo attached.
