Greetings Folks. Thanks for a wonderful forum.

Our Motorcycle Club here in the West Coast has recently acquired a project Kombi. I used to own an old Fleetline Kombi in the early 80s, and was surprised to see this "new" Kombi of ours since it has a T2 front with a T1 rear. After some research on the internet, I came across an article in an Afrikaans newpaper stating that this was done in South Africa around 1975/6. Further research revealed a T1.5 Kombi that was made in Brazil.

My question is, is this the Kombi that we have, i.e. a T1.5? I also assume that it is a 1976 model. Will post some photos of the project as soon as I figure out how to do it.

Kind regards,
Ugly Duckling (Firstly because I believe that is what these Kombis were called in those days, and secondly because I am living proof that the ugly duckling does not always grow up to be a beautiful Swan).
Swanepoel.

Welcome!

I believe that you have a BaySplit or Brasilia Kombi. I do not consider them as ugly ducklings

Hi all. CroniC here. I do not belong to any vdub club and new to this forum. I am a complete aircooled freak. I am currently rebuilding a left hand '72 1200 bug i saved from going to scrap. i owe a '76 1600 twin,'67 1300 bug,my pride and joy at the moment is my short wheel beach buggy originally build by beamish bugs in Capetown and rebuild and custom painted by myself and a friend.will post some pic's later. i am situated in MP. I'm a youngster but beetle's has always been part of my life and will most likely stay that way.

Welcome Ugly Duckling and all new members.

T1.5 is of way of looking at it!

Your bus was, I believe, called a Brasilia in its day, though mostly people (incorrectly) call them Fleetlines. Fleetlines were the Brazilian split buses assembled here in 1975. The baysplit "T1.5" replaced the Fleetline in 1976 and were assembled in SA until 1978.

Well I'm not actually the owner but I have this funny feeling I will be spending some money on this...

My son in grade 11 just bought his first car, a 1964 Beetle. He now has a car that is as old as his dad  With the exception of the radio it is still in original condition. He got it in Bloemfontein and we went down to fetch it 2 weekends ago. Came up doing 60mph without a hitch but did develop a leak at the rear left wheel that I posted about in Advice. Now he just need to save up some money to re-upholster the seats and it will be like new.
