I am interested in building a car and want to get the best body i can thats all and i have been speaking to many people who build thats where i got my info from.
Well there are a few people in register on a forum just to slag off a manufacturer, so sorry if I was wrong. But if there are people who have had issues with their bodies, they should speak up as everyone who I know with ex KCC bodies all love them, they are thicker than the US ones and the quality is top notch.

I have a KKC body and it's made using the same materials and same moulds and same resin as what replicars are using now. It's still hand layed fibreglass and the bodies are still top notch.

Plus as far as I know, they are the only Speedster body manufacturers in South Africa at the moment. I think the shells with doors and lids work out about R25 000 now, if not more.

No slagging here, i just want the best body i can get, Are there US bodied cars in SA? i could only find replicars making the bodies here, i have a KCC bodied car myself now and have had it for 17 years and am happy with it.

FFF you refer to KCC cars as being the same, are replicars the old KCC?

Okay, cool, nice to see we're all cool.

There are no US bodies in SA. And from what my buds in the US reckon, it doesn't sound as if their bodies are built that much better than ours, unless you buy a VS kit or a CMC or an intermecanica kit, ours are better.

As far as I know replicars are the only 356 kit makers in SA. There was a guy in Somerset West building highish end speedsters a while back, but I've lost touch with him, apparently, he was buying up old KCC stock before they went under.

Yup, KCC was the first name, then they went under and VENOM took over and now they are replicars. I think that there could be another name in the mix as well.

At R130 000 for a base model 1600 turnkey speedster, I don't see them selling too many of them. Mine with custom everything and a lot of imported parts and a BIG motor is still costing me about R80 000. Even R100 000 will get you a GREAT speedster.

Just thought, I'd pull her out and snap a few pictures.......Still waiting on some parts from a local chap and then I can get moving.......Using the time to save some money as I have a feeling that I'll be needing it soon. I've also started collecting some cheap parts for my Ipod set-up that's going to be installed. Single 8" sub, 5 1'4 splits and amp. Not much, but should make for some nice open top tunes.

Hi all, I'm new in these parts.
Firstly apologies for the highjack, but this is the closest group I could find for possibly answering my question.
I went to look at a porsche spyder RSK replica today, the car is in decent nick. Here's the problem, I just can't fit in the car. I'm about 1.83, medium build. When seated my knees are about midway up the steering wheel and I kinda have to contought my right leg to move my foot from accelerator to brakes. Not a good situation I think. Has any one esle experienced this or know of possible fixes. The seat is fixed, so can't be adjusted back.

For what its worth, my 1st choice is actually a speedster and the preferred car,but right now the finances don't spread that far. Used Speedsters are a rare find and often people want crazy money (IMHO). This group has reminded me how much I love that car.

Regards

I see that as a bargaining point.........As far as I know the seat set-up in the spyder is the same as the speedster. I'd have a look under the seat and see if it still has the beetle rails and hope that the seat can be moved. I'm the same height, but a bit bigger build (aka, fatter) and I fit in my mates spyder just fine.

Many dudes want the speedster, but 70k upwards for a so-so is out of many peoples reach. But the bargains are out there.

thanks for the response FlatFourFan..
The seat setup in the Spyder is different to the Speedster, the seat does not use rails at all. In fact its directly mounted to the floor. The speedster has a much "deeper" inside.
I've decided to hold back and wait for the car i really want ie. Speedster.
For what its worth.. Spyders aren't that cheap. the one I looked at was advertised for 65k...

There are a few different seat set-ups with the spyder. I think the person to ask on this is calooker/ Rui as he has one.

I know of 3 spyders now all selling for under R20 000 needing some work.

Good news man.

According to the Topcar magazine of June 2008 (they had a multi-page Porsche insert) there were only 4144 built between '54 and '58. Most of them were destined for the US market (LHD) so I doubt there were a lot - if any - RHD.

Other interesting stats of numbers built:

Gmund Roadster ('48) - 1

550RS Spyder ('54 - '56) - 150

356A, B, C ('49 - '66) - 77766

356 Carrera ('56 - '64) - 1247

914 ('69 - '76) - 118 982

959 ('87 - '88) - 329

Carrera GT (2004 - 2008) - 1270

Cayenne (2003 - present) - 178 747+
