Identi-kits for Golf

Post by Pine »

Scan from a June '81 CAR magazine article - soop up your Mk1 Golf with the help of your friendly local VWSA dealer. So after purchasing the kit, you will still have an enormous clock to the left of your speedometer, yet a (small) VDO tach to the left of your knee, and another two additional gauges even further down. I find this article quite interesting, because they offer the 3-spoke steering wheel available on the SP Beetle some 5 years earlier as an accessory for the new! improved! Golf. Wonder if they had some surplus stock? My theory is that surplus stock was indeed the case after Beetle production was discontinued towards the end of '78, with the last Beetle completed Jan '79. Still an interesting part of VWSA history, albeit not air cooled... and I'm putting one of those steering wheels on HW2...
