Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hello, my name is Jaap Steenkamp and I stay in Namibia on a farm near Helmeringhausen, which is about 250km south-east of Luderitz. We farm mainly with sheep, which is quite adapted to this area. I do not have a aircooled VW at the moment, but I want to buy a beach buggie I know about. I had a Beatel when I studied at Stellebosch in the early 90s, which gave me many pleasure, but it was written off one night by a very bad man called Oom Tas..
I have a 2.5 Microbus that works very well on the bad roads. I don't have internet on the farm, but we are visiting family here in Groblershoop near Upington, and I was playing around on the Internet and saw this site, I really like it a lot. Hope to make a lot new friends, and you are welcome to come and visit us on the farm if you like.

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
I've been through Helmeringhausen twice. Both times on school trips. I remember a particularly annoyed German lady at the petrol pumps...
I think we wanted petrol at an inconvenient time

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Howzit everyone,
My name is Marco, I hail from a little town called Secunda. I am originally an opel fan, successfully modifying many with my old man (still drive a superboss turbo). About a year ago I was stuck without a car, and I had a 10k budget to get me some wheels. A friend of mine suggested I pick up a beetle, so one junkmail later and a weekend in jo'burg, I picked up a sh!tfly/puke green '74 1500. I paid 5k for it; I spent R254 to fix up the little things (vacuum advance, wheel bearings, various rubber seals, and break shoes front and rear). I subsequently put 6k km's on that car whilst in my possession, and all I can say is WOW! The consumption was good, it wasn't fast, but it was solid and reliable. I sold it to a friend of a friend and it’s still running to this day without a problem.
So now, after much consideration I’ve decided to get my greasy hands on another one. First logical step is to join a forum, mingle with you guys/gals, and once I have a bug, share the restoration project with you folk.
Hope to have some good times
Cheers,
Marco
