I've just discovered that I haven't introduced myself either.
My name is Dirk (big surprise).
I'll be 32 in a few days and live in Brackenfell, Western Cape.
By day I live the life of a Software Engineer
(Linux RULES!!!).
By Night I slowly morph into a surfer of the information highway, constantly learning new things. Until a month ago, I did not know how an air-cooled engine worked or what a caliper is and how disk brakes differ from drum breaks. Tonight, thanks to this metamorphosis, I can explain in great detail that a drum break is preferable for the rear of a car, as it makes the installation of an emergency brake easier. Where as the disk break is preferable for the front as it provides better stopping power. I can also list the 4 steps in the process of a 4 stroke internal combustion engine. Now all I have to learn is how to hold that number 10 spanner without
taking the skin off these sensitive-touch-typeset hands.

Back in my youth it was not uncommon to find me in the mosh-pit,
to Metalica, Judas Priest, Guns 'n Roses etc. etc.
I also like playing paint-ball. If you see me outside the four walls of my office or house it's probably on a paint-ball field. But I haven't played in way too long

One day I would like to have my very own fully restored 68/69 VW Fastback. In the mean time I might have to settle for the equally lovable and reliable Beetle.
I'm married to a truly fantastic woman, you might see her lurking about.
That's me in a nutshell. As you might have realized, I'm useless in the workshop. But if you need help with programming a computer system, I like to think that I have learned a few things in the last 12 years of doing it
PS. Just as there is no quick or cheep with restoration, there is no quick or cheep with software. You either learn this quickly or the HARD WAY
, but I can dream in the meantime.
