No, its a "ou p!3l"
You have to drive a superboss to appreciate it. In standard form they are beasts, and damn fast compared to most of the modern day hot-hatches. But chuck a turbo into the mix and you have yourself a completely insane piece of machinery, not for the inexperienced or stable minded

oops
I just checked all my posts and I just realized that I never introduced myself. Sorry
here goes
I am Friedrich, 53 years old, live in Centurion (near Pretoria, South Africa) and I have a ’74 beetle. I own my own Engineering shop making components for Nissan motor sport but spend most my time servicing and repairing 3D measuring machines.
I had a 1957 chevBelair that I was restoring, but I sold it, for better or worse
I am a keen biker and have a new BMW RT 1200 and I am one of the lucky guys, my wife loves biking too.
My favorite band is Matalica, bit of a metalhead.
I sold my last beetle in 1978 (1960 model) and somehow I felt something was missing in my life, until I saw the Discovery program “Beetle Crisis” then I realized what it was, my beetle, it felt a bit like I just met my first love again.
So I went hunting, found one, not the same model but it’s a start.
my dream is to have a split screen Bakkie, but i guess that will have to wait if I look at the prices that they go for

, but I can dream in the meantime.
Thanks for a great forum
Friedrich

I've just discovered that I haven't introduced myself either.
My name is Dirk (big surprise).
I'll be 32 in a few days and live in Brackenfell, Western Cape.
By day I live the life of a Software Engineer

(Linux RULES!!!).
By Night I slowly morph into a surfer of the information highway, constantly learning new things. Until a month ago, I did not know how an air-cooled engine worked or what a caliper is and how disk brakes differ from drum breaks. Tonight, thanks to this metamorphosis, I can explain in great detail that a drum break is preferable for the rear of a car, as it makes the installation of an emergency brake easier. Where as the disk break is preferable for the front as it provides better stopping power. I can also list the 4 steps in the process of a 4 stroke internal combustion engine. Now all I have to learn is how to hold that number 10 spanner without
taking the skin off these sensitive-touch-typeset hands.
YES I AM A GEEK. Thanks for rubbing it in.
Back in my youth it was not uncommon to find me in the mosh-pit,

to Metalica, Judas Priest, Guns 'n Roses etc. etc.
I also like playing paint-ball. If you see me outside the four walls of my office or house it's probably on a paint-ball field. But I haven't played in way too long

.
One day I would like to have my very own fully restored 68/69 VW Fastback. In the mean time I might have to settle for the equally lovable and reliable Beetle.
I'm married to a truly fantastic woman, you might see her lurking about.
That's me in a nutshell. As you might have realized, I'm useless in the workshop. But if you need help with programming a computer system, I like to think that I have learned a few things in the last 12 years of doing it
PS. Just as there is no quick or cheep with restoration, there is no quick or cheep with software. You either learn this quickly or the HARD WAY

Welcome from the hood Dirk. I wonder why all new members cannot introduce them selves like you did.

Welcome Dirk & Friedrich!
Hope you enjoy yourselves.
Dirk don't feel bad about being mechanically challenged. I'm also in the programming game (PLCs & Scada systems) and semi mechanically challenged. Although I do most of the work on my cars myself, I don't have anything near the mechanical skills that you'll see on this site! There's certainly enough to learn.

Hello all
Name's Mark (surname starts with a T - hence the initials "MT - hence "Empty)
Currently residing in Modderfontein, Jhb, SA
Restored a 1600 SP many years ago, which was unfortunately written off while parked - story for another time
Left VW's and went the RV route, but always had the dream of one day when funds were available to do another project.
I've just purchased a Autovilla - which is in a very sad state of affairs, which I want to rebuild.
Metalwork is not my forte' - and this villa needs some work in that respect - so will be learning as I go along.
My main concern on this bus is the Auto Gearbox - not selecting Reverse, and slipping in it's gears (any suggestions on a recon?)
Woodwork I'm good with, so the interior will be kitted out from scratch.
Married with 2 children, I'm in the Motorcycle Import business.
I'm 35 years old
My main passion is flying, and I'm an aircraft owner and holder of a Private Pilot License
Looking forward to interacting with everyone here!
Regards
Mark
