Gearshift is nice and crisp and selection is good - seems the problem with the gears from previous owner was the polly pipe that was used for the clutch cable was in the way and also where the pan was cut - the left side remains of the brake pipes was bent so no space for the shifter to move in there

Next task is the inside clutch tube needs to be secured and then the cable shortned
The same task will be for the hand brake - have a donar from the other pan
Will trial fit and measure the cables and then have them shortned

Not to worry this was a trial fit before the final and I quickly worked out it was on the wrong way

Now she sits proper like this

Can see the sandblasting from being towed
New matt ontop and then sanded down
Next primer and check for the low spots

Well Nearly a year has passed since the Manx and I met

Target is to get her done before the 365 are up

Have now got a newer best friend in my toolbox

Air powered orbital sander




Got the rest of the body down to a 600 grit sanding


Must admit that the time is now paying off - this bod feels soooooo smooth and it will be a real joy when the final colour goes on





To all the others out there doing the filler and sanding job - when you think you have sanded enough sand some more and dont be tempted to slap that final coat on - all the work will pay off

First coat of filler on the nose and sanded down - just a few pit holes that need some putty and then another coat of filler



Starting to look a bit better than that fist shot after the glassing

Then let the sanding begin

Off to Struisbaai with the kids this weekend so alas no work just play for me but will resume the case next week

Maybe even get some of that "Chilli Red" down next week

After many hours of sanding sanding and yes then some more sanding

Managed to shoot the colour on the bonnet

Chilli Red and I am STOKED

I would like to spray my own buggy as well as opposed to sending it in. How do you plan to spray it?
Due to all the usual climbing over the body work when getting in and out the bug...especially passengers’ getting in the back...how are you going to protect the paint work?
I was planning on sending mine in to get Gel coated..not sure if that's something easily done at home

All depends how much space and time you have
also how far you wanna go
If body in a good order can get away with a thinners wipe down and then a tape down and spray outside on a warm day
Body repairs etc take a bit more time
